sure, of course its worth 800k.... you just said a similar house down the road where they spent 200k doing it up has just been sold for 625k.

you spent 70k on yours which is worth 800k. yeh right.

also youve been saying youre doing great because your 600k property is clearing you £1200 a month.

interest rates are at the lowest it will ever be, the lowest on 300 years, and youre yielding £14,000 a year on a property you reckon is worth 600k.

with interest rates at pretty much zero, and the lowest mortgage rate possible, youre yielding 2-3%.

youre telling me that 2-3% is the highest you can possibly yield on your property, and you still dont see the problems ahead. and your an accountant.

£625k initial Purchase Price + over £200k (refurb) = Total in excess of £825k

The couple is a doctor and a lawyer. The reason they bought there was because the private school there kids go to it 400 yards away. Still having a bit of difficulty with your reading.

The only one comparable on the market in my area is on at £850k at present, its on the street running on the other side of the road to me.

The reason it cost me £70k not £200k plus which were the estimates if I let builders is because I did most of the work, and kept contractors to a minimum. The guys up the road had sometimes 15 guys on site and it still took 5 months.

The reason why mine was so cheap was because it was absolutely wrecked.

    That's very true actually.

Maybe I should clarify by saying that there's a small minority on here that seem to base a lot of their lives around schadenfreude, spending year upon year posting articles and links to other people's misery and cheering it on. Fat people, immigrants, business owners who are failing, people who have made mistakes etc. Don't get me wrong, 90% of this board debate intelligently, but there is an 'odd' minority. You must see that?

I thought it was just me that had noticed! It reeks of bitterness on this board sometimes.
Added bonus, I learnt a new word

Its the mark of the middle class. Their lives are valued in comparison to others - and if someone does better than they do, or is given a better start than they had, or is prettier or smarter, or has more expensive stuff, or draws resources from the state that they never needed, then they get angry and bitter.

The Daily Mail epitomises this twisted wing of the middle class. Its headlines are "Aslyum Seekers threaten YOUR house price" or some other threat to personal wealth (see the headline generator!). Its stories are negative, its commentators pour scorn on everyone. It obsesses about celebrities and fashion then spends lots of energy showing how horrible they really are - all the while tutting about celebrity-obsessed poorer people watching Big Brother.

Ultimately if all your life is worth is how much your house is worth, what car you drive, whats in the bank, what stuff you own and what school you managed to cheat the system to get your kids into, then its worth nothing. Its no wonder they are full of schaudenfroide - they are desperate for others to fail to make their own worthless lives seem less worthless.
