EON - Elec.V5 to V13

I too had a welcome letter guaranteeing v5 discount of 18.1 % (scottish power area 6% direct debit, 3% dual fuel 9.1% online) until at least 1st July 2009.
More recent letters stated discount would end 1st April 2009, so I switched to v13 (only 13.8% total discount).
However I used on the online message tool to query the loss of promised discount until July, and threatened to change to BG websaver 2.

Reply from EON was
"I am sorry for any confusion caused.

The letter you received was a standard letter informing all customers that prices had decreased on
31 March 2009. There would have been no change to the discount you received.

I have therefore placed you back on Energyonline Extra Saver version 5 which will continue to offer you the larger discount."

So they have put me back on v5, and I have got new v5 welcome letters with 18.1% gas discount and 22% electricity discount. Letters dated 21/04/09 and discount promised to last until 1/04/09! Assured by eon over the phone that these new "v5" discounts will stand until I am informed otherwise.

I could still save £14.00 per annum by changing to BG, and get £40 from quidco for the change.

I think you have received some pretty poor advice caten8. Really sorry about this.

Let me clarify. Energy Online Extra Saver (version 5) ended on 1 April 2009. Up untill this date the discount in your area was 18.1 per cent for both gas and electricity.

Customers on this product will have automatically been transferred to the standard online tariff after 1 April 2009.

Please contact us again if you have a letter saying the end date is 1 July 2009. It may be part of the dodgy batch of letters I posted about earlier and we need to look at this again with you.

So if you have one of these letters it may be worth your while to query early termination of v5 with EON.
