EON - Elec.V5 to V13
Options
I was on ElectricityExtraSaverV5 which ends this month and have just switched to V13 (no other choice really).
My discount was c20% (Southern region) and I believe my new discount will be c14.5% with same energy prices. My current DD is £43.00/mth
Does anyone recommened EDF or BG? I believe they will be cheaper (by the looks of the switching websites).
Comments are appreciated.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news pardal51 but the discount for Electricity Online (version 13) in the Southern region has gone down to 10.7 per cent.
It is the dual fuel Energy Online tariff for this region that has a discount of 14.7 per cent.
These rates of discount are guaranteed until 1 August 2010.
Better news is the unit prices for electricity on version 13 of our online products are lower than version 5.
Pop your details on to one of the comparison websites and see how they compare.
Hope this helps.

I changed from v5 to v12 (13 wasn't yet available at the time), but I didn't see the discount % stated anywhere.
Can you please tell me what's the discount in v12 for Yorkshire (electricity only)? And is there a place on the site where I can see that?Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -

Eon like to keep their discounts off their website for some obscure reason, sighting regional variations........which their tariffs already are.0 -
Hi ScarletBea
Our Electricity Online (version 12) in Yorkshire has a discount of 12 per cent.
The newer version 13 has a discount of 9.8 per cent but the unit prices are lower.
Sorry you cannot see the percentage figure for your area on our website at the moment. This is an improvement our technical bods are currently working on.
Hope this helps.

Ok, thanks.
Before I had a total discount of 26%: I assume this was 6% for direct debit and extra discount of 20%.
Now the 20 is 12%.
Given that the unit prices are around 3% lower, the total is higher
I hope that the reductions from April 1st will be enough to compensate...
By the way, I can't move to v13 because I've just moved to 12, and you're only allowed to switch within eon once every 3 months.Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
I am on the stadnard Eon electricity plan, am in south Wales (SWALEC), and pay on receipt of bill (i am not going to DD!). Is there any advantage to moving to v13, as according to the website the prices are exactly the same?!0

Sorry Malc, but I find your response somewhat disingenuous to say the least ! Let me elaborate..........................Sorry to be the bearer of bad news pardal51 but the discount for Electricity Online (version 13) in the Southern region has gone down to 10.7 per cent.

As I am on 18%, and my Eon letter tells me that it will fall to 10%, thank you for that price increase from 1st April ! And I will have that miserly discount for another 16 months - Wow !Better news is the unit prices for electricity on version 13 of our online products are lower than version 5.
Meaningless - in my case a massive reduction of 1.8% !
However, at the same time, your gas prices have risen by over 5% - don't recollect seeing that in all the hype when Eon triumphantly announced the price cut of 9% in its electricity prices - which now appears to be only 1.8% anyway ! Perhaps 1% + .8% equals 9% in Eon speak ?
I have re-calculated my last bill from Eon (end Jan) with these wonderful new figures.
Result:- an overall price increase of 12.59% - I will say that again - increase of 12.59% !!! when wholesale energy prices have fallen dramatically.
I suppose many of your customers can't be bothered to sit down and crunch all the numbers, or are just totally bemused by your sleight of hand with the numbers, and as a result fall for the hype your company churns out - I am afraid this is one who was bothered and sees through the hype.Hope this helps.

I'm afraid it doesn't help in the slightest Malc. There are other visitors to this site who would (with perhaps some justification) accuse you (not personally) of "rip off" !
I wouldn't be so ungallant to use language like that, but I would wholeheartedly agree with another site user who referred to energy pricing as "pricing by confusion".
If Eon really wants to be the consumer's friend, how about publishing tariffs that are totally transparent and understandable ? At least be honest - which to be blunt your present pricing system is not. I am afraid that saying things like, "it is too difficult to include (rapidly vanishing !) regional discounts on our website" just doesn't hold water ! the comparison sites seem to manage it on the actual unit pricing of energy.
It is hardly surprising that the energy companies have such a bad name when they employ pricing tactics such as those I have mentioned above - and plenty of others !
Perhaps they should move into banking or accounting for politician's expenses.
Goodbye - to Eon anyway !0 -
It seems to me that all of the Utility companies(with the exception of Ebico perhaps) have taken lessons from the mobile phone companies in confusion marketing.
It is difficult enough for even those who understand energy tariffs to keep abreast of the ever changing situation.
For instance take moonrakerz's excellent analysis in post#9 above. What percentage of EON's customers would pick up the sleight of hand that imposes a price increase on customers whilst the anouncements proclaim a price cut? perhaps 1%?
With the new style tariffs where there are different charges at different times of the day( e.g. EDF 20:20 and First Utility) it is impossible for anyone - including the comparison websites to calculate which is the best tariff.0 -
But, amazingly, you people are still relying on the Big 6 for your energy needs whilst moaning about how bad they treat their customers. Why not do summat about it?? The GBP basically get the c.rap service/rip-off companies we deserve. We love to moan but basically can't be arsed to be pro-active.... and the companies know this. And we have the temerity to scoff at the French when they are chucking farmyard animals at the police on the streets. Tut, tut, how embarrassing, we are far too civilised to do such a thing. No, we will just restrict our protests to complaining behind closed doors and on internet bulletin boards, lol...Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0
