Manuka honey for external use

Options
If you use the UMF manuka honey for external use - wounds etc etc, then the sterilised tubes of Comvita ManukaCare 18+ are on special at the moment from The New Zealand Honey Shop.

Have seen them in some Holland Barrett stores at £12 something.

Here they are down from £11.75 to just £8.50 each.

Not sure how long special is on for, but here is the page:

Ah, plus £1 each for delivery, but still a few pounds better than normal.

In the past we've got it from Morrisons for about £5 a jar.
Don't know if it's precisely the same kind of manuka honey as the NZ shop but I've used it several times on wounds/sores etc and it works.

Thanks OP. Would just point out the expiry date from their website:

"This unique honey doesn't really 'go off' within any short time frame unless it is subject to too much heat. Our current stock of ManukaCare is use by April 2009."

I've used manuka honey on small wounds in the past and it works brilliantly. I think this is slightly different to the normal manuka honey and is what I would use on bigger wounds such as ulcers - so its a bit special compared to the type that Morrisons sell.

By the way Paolo - I'd rather use snakeoil than the usual manufactured treatments with all their side effects - if you can't be constructive or informative please just don't bother.

As a honey farmers daughter I can tell you that honey never goes off - it may crystallise but that is it. They have even found jars of honey in Egyptian tombs still good enough to eat!

what has snake oil got to do with honey?

Sometimes when I get a bad cold the skin splits at the corners of my mouth. Really painful especially when its starting to heal and I open my mouth a bit too wide to eat something.
My doctor told me to dab it with aftershave many times through the day - works but is really painful.
Manuka honey keeps it sort of stretchable so I can eat ok and heals it up quickly without stinging - might look a bit odd though!
    Definitely not a wind up.

    No, not a wind up.

Has successfully treated leg ulcers which are notoriously difficult to heal.
  • Treats MRSA better than any antibiotic.
They are using in Christie hospital, Manchester for throat cancer patients.
I cured myself of REALLY bad Acid Indigestion - was on Omeprazole which hardly touched it - just 2-3 months of 1 tsp of Manuka on toast 3 times a day & haven't had ANY problem since. Wonder treatment!
I swear by manuka & am never without a jar in the house.
