Daily OS Thread - Friday 20th March

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 20th March. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

Morning OS friends! hi.gif

Pen-pin - Hope you feel better today
Squiggles - hugs honey!
Steel - Sorry your yoghurt wasn't great. Try this link HERE for a fairly foolproof way to make it in the slow cooker..
fairyelephant - What you are feeling is only natural honey, and I am sure that your friend feels really guilty as well as happy that she is pregnant so easily. I have felt the same about my sister who fell pregnant just looking at a guy but after my miscarriage I never was able to conceive again due to medical complications. However, I do believe there is always hope. In my case I just had to just learn to get used to the idea that I was going to be a fantastic auntie and god-mother but that it wasn't my pathway in this life to be a mother.
Mountain Ash - wwelcome2.gifto the thread
csarina - lovely cushion hon!

Well the Dr rang yesterday afternoon and said they think I have stage 2 Adult onset diabetes. Bit of a shocker though at 44 and being clinically obese I guess I have been dodging that bullet for a few years now. I feel really upset about it.

We went to the local butchers in the afternoon and bought 2 HUGE ham hocks for £2 each; 8 fat butchers own made sausages for around £2.20 and 4 of the biggest pork chops I have ever seen for just over £1 each. We had one each last night and it was delicious. It was all just such a bargain. The ham hocks were frozen so they went straight into the freezer til I can decide on the best way to cook them. I make that about 8 or 9 meals for a tenner.

Well I did all my baking yesterday morning - yummy cheese straws and hobnobs and a lovely coffee sponge with coffee butter icing. However in light of the news I think I ought to avoid the sweet stuff so my OH has placed both the cookies and cake in a cupboard I cannot reach. I won't miss the hobnobs so much, I am not a biscuit eater but I will miss the butter icing. :rotfl: :rotfl:

I hope everyone has a good day and you find some way to be kind to yourself.

Warm gentle hugs to all those who would like one. hugs.gif

Morning MSD and all who follow

Another beautiful day here yesterday but a tad on the nippy side.Got two loads of washing dry on the line so I've got that to iron later as well as washing the kids uniforms ready for Monday

Off out later if its nice to take YS to the park and also find a nice but reasonably price bouquet for the dreaded MIL.I've put my foot down this year and refuse to visit on Mothers Day as we dont get on and tbh I'm a mother too so I deserve a little pampering.Hubby can take the kids if he wants to visit and I'll snuggle on the sofa with a book and a brew:D

On a domestic front got a joint of cooked pork in the fridge that wants slicing and freezing and also made a loaf yesterday that also wants slicing and bagging up.Hope its nice so that I can get some washing out

MSD-Sorry to hear about the possible Diabetes. But it may be treatable with diet instead of insulin

Fairyelephant-Its a horrid thing being infertile and I should know as I was for 14yrs.But modern science is doing wonderful things these days and after several years of fertility treatment we now have 4 beautiful and very loved children so please dont give up hope and also please dont shut yourself away as life can be wonderful and still very fulfilling even without children

Good morning MSD and all who follow. MSD, so sorry to hear about your ealier miscarriage and, also, the diabetes diagnosis - take care of yourself. I bet you are a lovely auntie and Godmother.

Welcome to Mountain Ash and any other newbies I have missed.

Well, today is our last day here in the UK (apart from next Tuesday when we'll have brought the empty truck back). I shall be offline from late this afternoon, and hope to be back on next Thursday, all being well. I hope, once we've settled, that I'll be back spending more time on here - I feel I've neglected this lovely thread dreadfully while we've been organising our move.

OS-wise, I've run the freezer down to empty and we're just finishing off the last bits in the fridge. Dinner tonight will be something from the chippie because I want to get the rest of the kitchen packed up, apart from things for breakfast and lunch tomorrow. I should be a lot more OS in France, because I'll have more time and things are a lot cheaper! We're looking forward to being mortgage/rent free, for the first time ever, but I think it'll take ages to get used to the idea that we don't have to find that monthly commitment. I'm almost looking forward to the move, apart from leaving the family, but they are all Skyped up, so at least we can see and hear each other whenever we want - I'm sure that will make it more bearable.

Well, I'd better put the WM on for the last time here!

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'll try and call back before I go offline but, if I can't, I'll 'see' you all next week!

    Au revoir!

Quite foggy here in Essex - hopefully it will clear up later. I finish work early on a Friday so hope to get some gardening done when I get home.

Thank you all for your kind words yesterday - I had great pleasure in handing in my notice yesterday! The general feeling, when I told the other staff, was 'you're so lucky to be getting away from here'!!!
I do feel guilty though, hopping from one job to another when so many peeps are out of work.....

Mioliere I am sooooooo jealous of your move to France. It has always been my dream to live there and, if all goes according to plan, :rotfl: will be retiring there. Bonne chance...

Had a quick S & S yesterday evening so that we can come home on Fridays to a 'tidy' house. Is Gardeners World on tonight? (I'm too tight to buy the Radio Times!)

Co-op had a lovely steak pie reduced yesterday and there is some left over, so will take that to school to heat up for lunch. Tonight we will probably have something easy - ham, eggs and potato wedges.
The wash-bin is empty but the ironing basket is full:eek: so that will be one of my first jobs tomorrow - that is, if I'm not out in the garden!!! Or over the fields with my gorgeous springy-bobs.
    Have a good day everyone

    Morning.

Misty and cool windy start to the day. All the forcasts say sun and nothing else. Hmmmm Why is it cloudy then? Should turn out nice. Had a lovelyl day yesterday even got sunburned. Managed to tidy up some more garden, mow the grass and clean the BBQ. So a good start to the year so far. It's still unseasonably warm, but hopefully it can only get better. Even grilled burgers outside.
Pork chops and veg parcels tonight!

Docs was fine. Said I was OK so far. See what the cholestrol comes back at. Not giving up butter, clotted cream or pasties though!

More garden to attack today. I am also going to set up the incubator and start 30 Light Sussex eggs off. I have saved them all up for a week from my hatchings last year, so they should be very fertile. Rooster is 'busy' so .....
I also have a bucket of parsnips I dug out of the veg patch when I turned it over, so time to sterilise the wine fermenter.

Bust time of year this March....

    Have a nice day

Fairy E, Chin up sweetie, I do hope it works out for you xx

Mrs Tittlemouse, hugs to you hun xx

OH is working in Brighton at the moment, putting a kitchen in a tiny top floor flat, which he said is sooooo hot its unbearable, and its only March. He is having to leave at 7, cos the traffic to get there is quite bad in the mornings, and he is not in much before 6 at night, so long days for him at the moment, still we are both very grateful that he has a job to go to.

Oh well better crack on, have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:
    Happy Birthday Essex-girl :bdaycake:

My blood pressure is 122/60 which is good, says the doc. So, good then :D

Dad wasn't sick after his op yesterday, they didn't use a general anaesthetic, they used an epidural and gave him a pill to go to sleep - never heard of that before  Will investigate that today :D I asked him if he wanted anything, thinking papers, puzzle books etc. He wants kitkats :rotfl:

The trus are getting worse, they used nearly all the milk last night but didn't get more out of the freezer, there was just enough for a cuppa this morning and now it's all gone cept for the frozen 6 pinter I got out about an hour ago  I'm going to start treating them all as lodgers and pretend I'm single with no kids.

Master tru has paid for his flight (well, given his mate the money to book it today), hasn't booked a hotel/B&B and he hasn't sent off for a passport. And it's over Easter weekend so it's going to cost a fortune. He was paid yesterday and has no wages left. Idiot.

Shopping today, I've kept the list so short that it's hardly worth going

    Morning all

Sorry I haven't been around for a few days, money (or rather the lack of it) has become an all consuming worry and I just wanted to bury my head away from everyone and everything. I didn't get either of the jobs I went for and XH is pressing for his share of the equity in the house. I am due in court on 6th April for the financial part of the divorce and I can't even face filling the forms in.
