I'm on facebook under a fake name,
Personally, I avoid it, also all the invites for other such contact sites.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Just thought I'd add this info, you only have the option to have (or not) a Public Search profile, if you set your search visibility to Everyone - which I and most savvy users don't. I set mine to friends of friends, which is a wide enough circle in my opinion.0

NO not the same as most websites!!!
=============================
aahh just found this:-
"Users who want to restrict what information is available to the public or opt out of the feature altogether can change their privacy settings. They have a month to do so. Despite assurances from Facebook, critics have expressed disappointment at the move.
"This move transforms Facebook from being a social network to being a quasi-White Pages of the web," commented technology writer Om Malik in his blog GigaOm"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6980454.stm
so it was introduced late 2007 and worryingly all existing users were set as default to be listed on Public search engines. I think they should have least sent a message via the facebook inbox for such a major change.
Does anyone know of any other site that physically submits a "personally made" page of its users information by default? and not just stuff it has trawled? I doubt it.PLAY GOOD!

I realised this some time ago after searching for a friend of a friend
A very dangerous site if you dont want to be public property.
My daughter has had abuse from her ex, and his mates.
Shes now gone totally private, with nothing showing publically.
She can still be found by ex school friends etc, but not now by
a simple malicious name seach
I think a lot of people would be very surprised if they realised
what could be found out about them by tracing friends of friends.
Facebook and other sites like this should be explaining to their
members the possible consequences of going public....
My friends "ex" got drugged up last weekend(thats why he's an ex)
and sent nasty messages to some of her family who are openly
public on facebook.........
A very dangerous site, especially if you are unaware of the limits
and depths a person can delve into your "friends".........Couponing....."every little hurts"
Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
"I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours, "I said that............................ Bob Dylan 19630 -

I agree totally. Some people have the curious delusion that the internet is a private place.
If you don't want anyone to see it, don't put it on the internet. Simple.0 -
