If you knew this...sorry... but I didnt'

I have an unusual name and popped it into Google. Low and behold my details came up from Facebook with a selection information - including my friends and there pictures and details of who I am a fan of.

I was amazed!

If your on Facebook and are concerned simply login and in the middle top right, next to your username there is a settings tab

Search Results

Create a public search listing for me and submit it for search engine indexing (see preview)

obviously have a think and set them all as you like!

Yep, all clear and laid out in the Facebook privacy settings, have all my security settings high, with only friends having access to anything I put up, including photos (remember photos albums have their own security settings) - I keep it very secure, I only let friends of friends see me in a search (if they don't already know me), but not my friends list, photo nor any other detail.

no, thats what I would have thought! The submitting to Search engines amazes me,,, never heard of that before (getting old hehe)

AND, I have been registered for years and I'm sure these weren't there when I started.

cheers just changed my setting by clicking the 3rd facebook link that was me ! It give you the chance to edit settings if you click it.

What you type on these boards will be indexed by Google too... Handy IF you're aware that it happens. You should assume (unless told otherwise) that everything you post on the Internet is public, searchable, and unretractable UNLESS you are told otherwise!

do u mean that the search engines might find it when they are 'trawling the web'

(like Facebook) they physically submit a version of you details to search engines?
