ok, this is the first time i have been brave enough to do this.

current spend is 60.00 food shopping per week for 2 adults, 3 teenagers, and a 9 and 10 year old!
but...i seem to fall down on packed lunches as between the kids and OH have to make 32 pack ups a week!! i am always running to tesco express and paying over the odds for crisps, yoghurts etc etc.

budgeting for meals not a problem on the 60.00 when i plan ahead and cook in batches, but must get the lunch boxes in with that forward planning....any ideas gratefully received!

the 60.00 is to include washing powder, toiletries etc.
i am also attempting for a petrol budget of 120.00 for the month. more walking i guess!!

    good luck everyone.
think this is going to be fun! (how sad does that sound!)

btw my month runs from 1st - 31th march

finally...is it just me , or does anyone else have to hide their weeks supply of pack up goodies? if i don't 'little pixies' steal it!!!

  • This is my first grocery challenge, am going to try for £50.00 just for bread, milk, fruit and veg, as cupboards and freezer are really full, so going for a use up month. Two adults and two westies to feed.

A couple of good places to start would be a) reading through some of the threads in the Shopping section of the MEGA Index where are there are an assortment of tips on how to shop and quite a few listed under budgeting; and then b) browsing earlier challenges will give you lots of tips on getting started and the sorts of budgets people set for themselves.

You can find these via my signature any time you see it or...

..you can use the Monthly Challenges link in the Blue Bar at the top of every page which looks something like this:-

I'm in this month! I have read these for ages, but joining the first one properly. :)

I have been trying to clear my cupboards and freezer in the 'use up challenge' and still have a fair bit left (loads actually) I've got a Tesco delivery coming next Tues and its lots less than i'd normally spend. I am budgeting for 150 for 3 of us. Although my 6 month old obv isn't eating much of it ;) It does include formula for him and his organic veggies and fruit.

I'll just need top ups of Milk and veg - prob some fresh meat too. Trying not to buy that from Tesco.

Good luck all!! Must get a sig done :)

I'm in. The last couple of months have been really tough and I've no idea how much I spent on groceries :o The weekly shop was usually only a fiver over budget but I couldn't cope with preparing lunches and ended up spending far, far too much at M&S and in the newsagent's on 'top up shops'. I'm going to try really hard to stick to £80 for the month, lunches included.
  • hi everyone..

we was under last months budget of £120 just...

been through freezer and cupboard and have got enough food to do 26 dinners!!!!

we generally go out once a week to my mums for dinner so should be enough for the 31 days of march..

only shopping required will be milk, bread, eggs, fresh meat..

Hopefully we predict to spend as little as £18!!!

will set budget at £50 and hopefully will be way under :)
