This happened to me in Tesco and i am 35 and I am not kidding........ a little bit of "common sense" me thinks....
I totally agree with Bebsie, i know they have a job to do but surely just a little common sense should prevail? Also i dont agree that we should have to carry I/D around all the time, my son used to do this until he got mugged and among other things had his driving licence stolen. I agree yes they are only trying to do their job, but it seems the worlds gone a little madSealed Pot Challenge no. 0920 -
im amazed to this day folks dont carry official ID...
mine goes everywhere with me. i never get ID' in supermarkets now though, only bars n clubs.
I never frequent pubs/bars that ask to me show ID before either letting me in the door or serving me. I've been drinking legally for over 25 years, and I don't intend to start showing ID to prove I'm over 18."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
It's still illegal to buy alcohol for someone under the age of 18. At my old job we were told to refuse sale if a daughter/son put the alcohol on the conveyor belt.
Yes and No !
Your employers are guilty of reading something into the legislation that isn't actually there.
If you give it to someone under 18 in the street that is an offence, if you give it to a five year old "in private" (whatever that might encompass !) that is OK.
Stupid - but that is what the Law says.0 -
At 56, I don't get asked for ID at all, but when I went to the barbers recently, I was charged the OAP rate! I also dread going to B&Q on wednesdays, as I always get asked if I have a discount card! I usually answer in a loud voice, "I'm not old enough yet, I've had a hard life, and a hell of a paper round". lol.0

In regards to NUS cards I can see why they wouldnt be accepted. Ours had all the details written on in pen (DOB etc) by us.
The Student union would just hand out blank cards, get us to fill them in, attach our own photo and then he would ask us to stick the plastic sheet down.
Plus it was 'known' within the uni you could easily slip him a tenner and get extra ones.
They are very very easy to get your hands on, and put an older date on.Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
I certanly do not carry my driving licence - which has no picture anyway or my passport with me - too dangerous if lost
Perhaps this is a sneaky way of big brother taking over our lives and making us have id cards & paying extortionate money for them!!0 -
I was in M&S yesterday at the Bureau de Exchange trying to buy Euros for my daughter's day trip to France. I only wanted £10 worth and was paying with my debit card. I was told by the girl at the till that she would need either my passport or driving licence. I advised that I wasn't carrying either, but was told that due to the Money Laundering/Terrorism(?!!) new ruling, I would need identification. I said that I was hardly going to be money laundering with just £10 of Euros, but she wasn't having any of it. This was after having to queue for 15 minutes whilst the guy at the front was having problems trying to get his Yens. I should have realised then that I was heading for trouble with my £10 worth. Hence to say, she wouldn't serve me without the appropriate ID. I think I am turning into a grumpy old woman!
