Hi SH
Sorry to hear it's not going great - but very proud of you at sticking at it. Can't blame you at all for wanting to continue with the job search.
Good luck for the second stage interview - got my fingers crossed for you!!LBM - 17th November 2008 - better late than never

Hello everyone...! Hope you all had lovely sun shiney days!
Today was slightly better - I was given a couple of tasks and the "handover" element was less intense.... I am looking at the work done by my predecessor and thinking what do they need me for... I feel like I would just be adding to an already polished but bureaucratic process and creating "additions" as a way of looking busy which is not really who or what I am! I get the impression that that is the real reason why the person I am taking over from is moving on!
Still not sat down with my manager.... Hope to do that tomorrow. I need some reassurance that a) I will be fully occupied (I get bored easily!!) and b) that the work will be sufficiently interesting and challenging. If I don't get that then I will try and jump ship at the first available opportunity!
The culture is very different to where I have been for the few years altho I have worked in very bureaucratic environments previously. Not sure I have the patience for this one....I've worked for public sector orgs that are less bureaucratic... I am probably being over harsh but in a previous org we used to refer to it as "process rich and content free"! (That is not a compliment!! It is a posh way of saying some of the activities looked good but were a complete waste of time and space!)
Oh well will just have to count up the pennies earned for now! We had an ikea trip the other day and bought some new storage and bed covers for DS's room. He comes back tomorrow from being away so really want to get it all set up ready for him. That is a positive at least. If nothing else the last few days have paid for that :rotfl:and my other naughty spends of recent days!:rotfl:
Hope you are all okay... Feel free to talk about yourselves on this diary too LOL!;)Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hi SH, glad job is going a lot better - hope other job comes up trumps tho, I guess it's hard when doing a differentish job from what you are used to! I left a job in a maintenance dept and ended up in HR, I am now doing a bit more like the job I left but with nicer people (better pay) and am enjoying it a lot more! Have never known what my ideal job would be - lady of leisure perhaps, ha!
Have a nice night, just a quickie as loads to do tonight xx0 -
When the going gets tough, think of the money, money, money!
I am totally liking Hypno's approach.
When I get a new position, like you, I hate being the new girl and its tough finding out the procedures and what the firm is really like as agencies do have a high tendency to glamourise roles.
On the plus side, its Friday, then its the weekend and on the more plus points, this job is not your ultimate job - a mere stepping stone. So have your head held high and your pointiest of heels on, so you can quickly jab any bullies up the butt if they choose to try and hussle you again.

Hi Swinstie and GG and other readers! Hope you are all okay - Got that Friday feeling yet?
Well yes I survived the week and had an earlish finish today so that was at least something. I think I am going thro major culture shock at the mo - I may recover and think wow what a fantastic, caring company to work for or I may find its detail consciousness is a bridge too far!
I have told the job centre I am working again - altho I need to fill in some forms to do so officially. They have said if I leave a job I could have a sanction of up to 6 months... apparently if I had left in the first 16 hours that would probably have been ok!
My OH wanted me to ring the agency and say its not for me... which I think could well prove literally to be a very costly mistake but at the same time is tempting. I think I would be better making sure I had something to go to before doing that... No-one at the agency when I rang anyway LOL! In theory they are still looking for perm work for me - not completely convinced.
On another topic. DS is now home from his week away. He loves the new storage in his room and we got him a blackout blind too as he wakes up really early! He came home and was almost immediately put to work sorting out his room... He was pleased with the new duvet cover and bedspread (dark turqouise/teal) that we got from ikea too! I think he feels loved!
My MIL has got my DD until tomorrow am so that is really good too!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hi SH
Well done on getting to the end of your week!! Culture shock is never an easy thing to deal with - I hope it all comes out in the wash (as they say)
Glad to hear DS loved his new stuff!! Storage is always good!!LBM - 17th November 2008 - better late than never

Thanks emms - I hope you are right about the culture shock - we'll see what next week brings!
OH is off next week with the kids ?!? while I go to work and he is getting a much needed skip. I don't want to lose my stuff but recognise we have far too much at the mo! So next week may offer unique challenges in and out of work!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hi guys
Well I have finally been paid my interview expenses by DWP at last, I have also tripled the interest on my stoozing account this month by moving it into an isa earning over £9 in interest and withdrew £10 on a free daily scratchcard today. I've made the regular payments off my debts for now as I am still awaiting the first wage from my new job!
That has given me a really positive start to the weekend! Hope you are all okay! DS is made up with his blackout blind and had one of his first ever lie ins to about 10am LOL! He has been staying up late while he has been away and is cream crackered!
Hope you are all okay! What plans do you have for the weekend?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
