  • Well today I have applied for one job! A year ago I would have had about 40 jobs to apply for in my sector - today there were 4 of which only 1 was remotely suitable and even that was less than I want to earn! Oh well....

I have also done my expense form at last - about £160 should be coming back to me soon.

I've also done a few free offers on pigsback and updated my profile on valued opinions. Need to start trying to get some money in for xmas...

Sun is shining today - should really go out and make the most of it but not in the right mood - typical! Perhaps when the kids come home....

El - unless we seriously cut back our spending - and/or I get a job - come Christmas we will need to be living old style just to meet the basic bills or spending on CCs again.... So I am trying to get some extra income in so that a) our kids don't suffer - esp at Xmas and b) to cushion my shopaholic tendencies that still surface from time to time.... My biggest problem is frittering small amounts of money but they all add up!

Talking of money - as well as getting the expenses form in the post - I also need to find my pension docs so I can arrange a refund - they were supposed to have sent it to me by now!

  • Just checked up on the pension refund... Apparently the unit prices have gone up since I left which is great news - so they originally quoted me £1500 ish after tax had been deducted but apparently now it should be higher than that....

Going thro paperwork now to see if there is anything else I can claim from anywhere....

  • Well checked up on a tax letter I received about 06/07 - apparently there is nothing due back from them after all which was disappointing. I did chase up a pension refund from the civil service that I didn't think had ever been paid - and apparently I am correct so I should soon get £129.35 which is very welcome right now....

I know you are applying for suitable and near-suitable jobs in your preferred sector, but are you also applying for other stuff which will just "see you through".......with Christmas coming up, plenty of places are asking for Christmas temp staff, so it would be a way of bringing some much needed cash in without it needing to be anything more than a short term stop gap. I guess that plenty of the Christmas temp jobs will be part time too, giving you time to continue the permenant job hunt?

I have been wondering about trying to get a shop job - particularly if it was in the evenings... I have a 6 year old so don't want to pay childcare if I am earning low wages and want to be free to go to interviews...

With shops opening extra late for Christmas shopping over the next 3 or 4 months, I am sure there would be hours to suit.

    (and discounts to be had)

dont know if this would be of interest but...my son works in a call centre ...from 5-8pm five nights(they do give 16 hour contracts for tax credits etc) ...he doesnt get great basic (about £400 a month ) but he gets tonnes of sales ...he tells me he usually gets nearly £1,000 a month ...i am not sure if this is the real case or just a kid talking rubbish ...but this is what he tells me ...if he works on a saturday morning he gets time and a half as well...he says it is very easy to reach his target....just a thought
