    hi all

ive got 3 items which are bleach stained. 2x denim skirts and one lovely green cheesecloth skirt.

I lvoe all of these- and was wondering if I could overdye them. I was thinking of getting a dark navy denim dye for the washing machine.

Would this work? Would it cover the bleach stains?

I managed to do the same with a pair of stone shorts, will be interested to see if anyone answers. I'd thought of buying a pack of stone dye and just colouring the patches, would still be visible but maybe less obvious than the bleached spots.
  • It's likely that the the bleach marks would come out lighter than the rest.

I've recently dyed a pair of trousers and a light jacket. I used a black dye which goes into the washer and doesn't need anything added. It worked very well.

However, I had taken down the hem of the trousers and there was a lighter line around the leg. This was still lighter after the dying.

I would suggest it may be worth trying to bleach the rest of the garments to reduce the patching effect.
  • I recently died some bleach splashed clothing and some thigs that had been stained by crab apples (during crab apple jelly making).

Dylon machine dyes are really good and I found the bleach marks didn't show.

I used a terracotta brown over pink, lavender and greeny-blue. The only problem was that the thread didn't dye because it was polyester and not cotton like the rest of the garments. This doesn't look too bad but it's worth bearing in mind ;)

What about tie-dying to cover patchy colour ?

Btw for Dylon machine dyes you need quite alot of salt on hand.
  • bleach patches dont' tend to blend in even if redyed. I'd bleach the rest of the clothes and go with that look...... used ot work in a craft shop and get tons of people coming with beach spots on clothes and we'd tell them the same thing .. you're stuck.
  • Hi! :hello:

I've managed to rescue a few bleach marked things in the past and it has worked really well. These include sweaters and jeans. I have always gone for a darker colour and never had any problems or lighter patches.

If you go for a dark shade and don't try to dye to much in one batch they should come out OK.

    Good Luck,

    MissM

I was thinking about using the denim dye, its quite a bit stronger isnt it? Would that still not work? Only I do love these skirts....dont want to bin them if I dont have to :(

Is there a way to dye over the few spots I have got on a new top? The top is patterned (mostly dark brown) so I don't want to dye the whole thing, the spots are red/pink.

    Thanks, Ness.
