Soak it in plain water with a little borax if you have any, rub the stain and then wash as usual, it should come out ok. Some white fabrics do go blue if you bleach them, but don't usually stay blue.

As psoted above the blueing will come out but if you use neat bleach on fabric it is likely to rip or tear after a few washes and wears as the bleach will have rotted the fibres. My cotton dishcloths often have blue rings on them when I have been cleaning with neat bleach, within a few weeks they are full of holes.

In future if you need to pre-treat a stain with neat bleach put a very small amount of a Q Tip and treat the bare minimum of fabric necessary to remove the stain. Rinse and wash as soon as the stain fades. Remember that satins always appear darker on wet fabric and will fade still further once dry.

Another method is to dilute the bleach as the bottle instructs for cold bleaching whites and submerge the whole item for the recomended time. This is much safer is you are a bit cack-handed at fine spot treating and sploshing neat bleach about

Did you neutralise the bleach? I always use milk although to be honest I wouldn't use household bleach on clothes etc as it rots the fabric. I fear the top is probably a gonner, best chalk it up to experience I'm afraid & next time use Ace laundry bleach on stains!

Stick the whole top in bleach & maybe it will all go blue, then your boyfriend will have a blue top instead of a white one.

If he moans tell him it's his own fault for being a messy eater.
