Can't drink anything sweet - have never had fizzy drinks or sugar in anything. Odd...
Had a little bowl of strawberries and cream for supper as wasn't too hungry. Got antibiotics for persistent wound and they always make me feel rather 'down'. Still resisting even one glass of anything boozy and over the next few days it's not allowed on site anyway. Can't even smuggle any in as I'm working with children. :cool:0 -
Hi all,
I'm a long-time lurker on this thread but I would like some advice please. (You all are doing so well on this - I'm v impressed).
I've been following the "less than 20g carb a day" now for over 4 weeks.
For the first 4 weeks I've lost 17lbs (that's until last Friday).
:j
THEN on Sat I put on 2.75lbs, lost a bit on Sun, lost a bit yesterday and was back to 17lbs off. This morning I've put on again, so 'm almost back to where I was a week ago.
I have no idea how. I genuinely have not cheated at all. I drink plenty of water. I do an aerobics class twice a weeks. I just don't understand where I'm going wrong. I haven't changed what I was doing for a first 4 weeks.
Does anyone have any ideas at all?
Thanks

I found that true for tea, but not for coffee. Can't drink tea with sugar in it now (stopped putting sugar in it YEARS ago), but I find that a little honey/Agave nectar/Sweet Freedom in my coffee is a very welcome addition.
i did find i could no longer drink cheap tea or coffee when i stopped using sugar, it masks a multitude of sins0 -

possibly:
when you are drained of carbs and you eat anything with carbs in the body stores it so you can gain a fair amount of weight until the carbs are burnt off again
salt is another great one for suddenly gaining and loosing weight unexpectedly, i put 3lbs on in one day just buy eating a salty heinz soup,on the biggest loser Australia one of the contestants was able to increase there weight by 5kgs !!! by water loading on salt and water, do not underestimate what salt can do to your body weight ..
it can be down to "system back up" in the bowels, lower carbing can often mean very low fibre and the problems that can cause.
training is also a good way to get a temp weight fluctuation, exerted muscles can store a fair bit of fluid as they repair
ladies obviously get fluid retention with there TOTM
but then the body is an odd ball thing and can just give you odd weight fluctuations anyway0 -
Thanks Eric for the tips.
I hadn't actually thought of salt - I do eat a fair bit of it, it's probably something I need to cut down on anyway.
Right, low-carb, low-salt it is!!!
Should I try to do some exercise before breakfast as well?
Sorry for the questions Eric, you seem to be very knowledgeable.
Thanks again

salt is a !!!!!! and can do all sorts of nasty things to us, in reality you shouldn't need to add it to anything or even eat things with salt added
jurys out on when to exercise, at the end of the day it really does come down to cals in and cals out
i exercise first thing before i eat as I actually find it easier, if i exercise after lunch sometimes i can feel a bit washed out
go with what ever works for you with how you feel and fits your time schedule0 -
Thanks again Eric,
It's nice to talk to someone about the whole low carb thing.
I think I'll try the exercise before eating before work - maybe an easy-ish walk/jog .
I also do aerobics twice a week after work so will keep at that.
I know salt is bad for me anyway. But I had given up the booze, and the carbs and salt was my only main vice - looks like it's goodbye to that too.
Oh, well, if I can shift another 42lbs (my target) before christmas it will all be worth it in the long run.
Thansk for your help - you and everyone on here are very inspirational.

Welcome to the new posters here - I'm just plodding along doing low carb most days and enjoying the way of eating and it's effects. Yesterday didn't have much lunch but then had a big bowlful of raspberries and cream to make up for it.
Off today now until Sunday night so have stocked up with loads of LC snacks in case of emergencies - the place has vending machines full of chocolate!
Must pick up bottles of water on the way too, don't want to pay the huge amount from the vending machines.
Going to enjoy the Games and hope to read great reports!

Today is Day 4. I've not strayed, I know I am eating better than I have in months but I'm suffering with headaches. I have also resisted the temptation to weigh-in early or eat biscuits!
Out of interest how do you all size your portions?, I know there are several views on the subject, I've been concentrating on less than 5g of carbs and remembering to consider the calories but I don't think I'm eating enough!0 -
Hi everyone
I'm gonna try the low carb diet again. I've had quite a bit of success with it, when I stick to it.
I find I'm fine for Breakfast and Lunch but lose motivation at the end of the day and can't be a**ed to cook.
I thought I'd ask everyone on here which supermarket ready meals are low carb.
I find Marks and Spencer are the best for a chicken in a creamy or tomato sauce, chicken wings, haddock in a white wine sauce type dinner. Tescos finest have a few but are even more expensive than M&S (shock horror).
They aren't ultra low-carb but they're low enough for me.
Any other suggestions for really easy to make dinners - or ready meals you've seen in supermarkets.
If it means I have to travel to more than one supermarket to get enough dinners for the week (or two) then I will LOL.0
