Marrow, so sorry to hear about your dad, who wont listen? Do you mean family or doctors?
If the latter, take a really firm approach and tell them you think this could be possible and demand some action.

In the meantime, i'm thinking of you XX

  • Thanks for the kind words and thoughts guys. Its my parents who won't listen but its complicated coz there is some dementia and depression and other stuff going on too, and generally my folks won't go near a doctor (and cancel any appts I make). you can lead a horse to water....but if it doesn't drink, drown it!!

I retired early with a dose of anti-histamine which knocked me out flat. Woke up better though so suppose it was worth it. Got stung and am allergic so it was a ropey time yesterday but didn't resort to any carbs in my time of horror, just liquid anti-his from NHS walk in centre. Those places are brilliant, never used one before but was so impressed with the set up, the staff and the facilities.

Just waiting my 20 mins after coconut oil before breakfasting. Will be taking a ham salad with me today to the 'office' and then having some of my lovely chook for evening meal. Got my beef too and stuck in the freezer ready for the next 'want'.

After reading in a low carb recipe book about the lovelyness and low-carbness of mashed swede with cream and pepper I thought I'd try it. Disaster... firstly burnt it whilst talking on the phone (work phone) but it wasn't too bad. Them mashed it with cream, added the pepper and it was horrible -all stringy and fibres. Next time will add in some crispy bacon to give it some flavour cos got another half a swede left. Grief, and it was difficult to cut up too!

Going to do some mashed cauli today - see what that's like.

    Hope everyone is OK.

Hello, i'm still here but flagging a bit now, might have a nap icon7.gif

Gers, there's not much worse (food wise) than a fibrous swede, i either buy baby ones, or preferably organic, soo much nicer, actually tastes of swede!!
I didnt think they were very lc though, although, i could be wrong.

According to Collins Gem carb counter only 2g of carbs per portion - seems low carb enough.

Will go for the baby ones next time. Live and learn.

  • Morning everyone :hello:

sarah, marrow & gers, hope you all doing better today :(

mazzers, I was awake at that time this morning as well, desperate for the loo but didn't want to wake hubby up so just laid there with my legs crossed!! :o Enjoy your lunch today, hope your throat is better by then, maybe you need to gargle with some brandy!! :D

Swede is definitely higher carb than cauli. I haven't tried it mashed with cream, sounds awful!! Best way, imo, is to boil, mash with butter & add loads of black pepper - tis lush!!

Dinner tonight is chicken & I've got it out of the freezer this time  Thinking of making either zero's pesto chicken or a parmo (North East delicacy ) which is chicken with a bechamel sauce & cheese. I wouldn't do the bechamel sauce (because I haven't a clue how to do it anyway :o) but would just make a cheese sauce to pour over it. So probably not really a parmo then!! :p

Have a good day all

Don't ask me why but we used to use swedes as Hallowe'en lanterns when I was young!! Sliced a 'lid' off the top & then dug out all of the swede & made a scary face in the remaining 'skin'. Seem to remember it took us hours & hours!! What was my Mother thinking of?! :rotfl:

This was obviously in the days before pumpkins became popular!! :o
  • Morning all - enjoying the swede annecdotes! If its low carb you could use it as a shepherds/cottage pie top!! :D

I'm coping with the low carb food, had roast chicken with roasted shallots and avocado salad last night and bacon and scrambled egg this morning.

Feeling a bit pants though as I'm really spotty again and feeling very dumpy!! Isn't doing anything for my mood whatsoever.

Also very !!!!ed off with best friend - who is quickly becoming non best friend. She used to be so selfless and very helpful and willing to be there for me, as I have been for her countless times. It was a mutual thing and it worked quite well, but since May she's become increasingly selfish and actually quite rude. We live together at uni and will be doing so this year. She found a prospective place, told me she was definitely living there even if I didn't like it, and then said she wouldn't discuss who has what room - so she has a nice big double room and I am stuck with quite a small one. I've tried to let it go because I don't want to live with 5 other smelly students partying all the time whilst I'm trying to get a first (final year - have to knuckle down!) and I don't have time to look for somewhere else and cant afford to live on my own. Thats the main thing that !!!!es me off but she won't even post the key to my friends place down the road on sat, because she's just too busy with what she has planned - it would take her 5 minutes whereas its a 2 hour round journey for me.

Sorry folks, I feel quite childish ranting on about something so insignificant but the OH doesn't "get it". I guess I feel totally let down by someone I have done so much for and only expect the same amount of friendship back. I have learnt however that I don't need her, it just hurts a bit, and when I have the opportunity to be selfish (like when she needs me to proof her work just before deadline) I will take up that opportunity, whereas before I wouldn't

    rant over

so back to low carb chat - I'm going to wagamammas tonight, and usually have prawn curry with rice, I'm hoping they'll give me extra veg or salad instead of rice!! Fingers crossed. They use a lot of sugar in the sauces but the one I go for is apparantly low sugar according to their website.

hope everyone has a good day and you all feel better - sore throats, stubborn parents etc etc
