I dare not get that, the raspberry was hard to resist.

Oh, how I hate these new-fangled computer things! I changed my sig but then must have pushed a few wrong buttons because it then wanted my name and password. I put them in but the computer said 'no'. So I ordered a new one and tried that but the computer said 'no'. I tried again and again but it still said 'no'. Eventually 'is nibs had to do it for me and I went into the corner and cried.
But the reason I wanted to post is that I am now officially HALFWAY! Yay! I weigh every morning but whatever my weight is on the Tuesday, that is what gets written in my notebook. So, only (?) another 19 lbs to go!
Vegetarian. Have cut out all high carb food. Not following any particular plan.Started 20/1/2009. Weight lost so far 29lbs. Target weight loss 38lb in total.

Thanks for the lunch ideas folks, yes I do sort of feel I have to have some greenery, rather than actually wanting to have it!! :o Sometimes I do like having a salad but think having it every day is 'doing my 'ead in' as they say!! :rotfl: Don't usually have dressing on it though so maybe that's something I should be doing to jazz it up, thanks for that idea.

SALAD WITH NO DRESSING!!!!!?!?!? Rabbit food!

No wonder you don't enjoy it. I remember salad with no dressing as one of the horrors of my pointless, miserable, depressing, hateful low fat diet attempt umpty years ago. More than 10 years and I STILL remember it, that and low fat cheese sandwiches without butter. Enought to make you cut your own throat!

I have a handy gadget (think from lakeland) with dressing recipies up the side. Its like a very thin transparent flask with a rubber lid. You just pour things in order up to the respective line then shake like **** and pour. Keeps for ages - not even in the fridge. But you don't need one of those - any old Jam jar will do (just watch for leakage when you shake).
My usual is basically French - 4-5 parts olive oil to 1part white wine vinegar, add to taste salt, pepper and french mustard. Mmmm. Makes almost any rabbit food taste OK!

Hopefully this is a time release formulation that releases the Vit C over 8hrs. If not next time make sure it is slow release. and perhaps consider 500mg twice daily or ideally every 8hrs.Once absorbed into the body the half life of Vit C is measured in minutes so if it's all absorbed at one and in your system 30~60minutes later then after a further couple of hrs the amount left at 50% depletion every 30mins is negligible.

It is time release and I was taking two 500mg time release twice a day but seem to have bought 1000mg time release by accident!
Only take this if you know for certain it works for you. There have been lots and lots of trials for this and the evidence swings both ways so all we can be certain of is that for a lot of people it is no better than placebo and for some it MAY be.

I was having lots of pain in my big toe and a physical therapist I was seeing (actually a witch - good witch - who sent me to her Mother the homeopath that started me off on all this low carb) recommended trying it and it really did seem to work for some time although the toe seems to be hurting again so I may stop for a bit and re-evaluate
The Vit D amount in total will be absolutely fine even if we have a wonderful summer and you lay naked at noon every day building up good reserves for next winter and the possible second wave of guess what ;).

Ewwww. Me naked in the garden - I'm not sure who would be more scared - the neighbours or the cats!
I'm taking all this vit D because of you Ted - I almost always follow your links to fascinating articles and was thoroughly convinced. I'm not sure what its doing for me but certainly no harm.
Dr Davis prefers people to be taking more than 3000mg daily of EPA + DHA and you will be approaching that, depending on how much oily fish or other sources of omega 3 you are actually eating.

Pretty much no oily (or other) fish as I'm really not a fan. I do eat a fair bit of meat and dairy but I've no idea how much I'm getting from that.
I'd like to see some magnesium listed.

Ok - will add that to the (very long!) shopping list next time. Can I ask why though?

Thanks so much for the advice. You are my guru ;)

Krispin gives a good summary here But basically Magnesium is a critical element in 325+ biochemical reactions in the human body and as it is water soluble over the years it has been leached from the topsoil and our veggies may not have as much magnesium now as our DNA evolved to use.

In both muscle and brain neuron actions it works by acting as a counterbalance to the effect of calcium.
So calcium tension a muscle fibre and magnesium relaxes it, and in the brain calcium excites neuron and magnesium calms.

In order to maximise calcium intake your body must have a 25(OH)D above 80nmol/l (some people a bit higher) and while that should enable everyone to absorb sufficient calcium from their diet there simply may not be sufficient magnesium available to match the calcium.
