Morning all,
Hope everyone is doing ok.
It was my birthday on Monday, and I've had lovely celebrations, but have felt carbed-out ever since. I've not eaten much since because of the bloating, but at least that is settling down now.
I'm going to make a large batch of soup and have that to hand, most of the party stuff has been eaten now!!
Nice to see some new faces here. Do post and tell us how things are going, we can go a bit quiet otherwise!!
Yesterday- B-nothing, just coffee
L-burger(without bun) and bacon,cheese, salad
D-nothing(went to see Star Trek instead!)
Supper-very small bowl of spaghetti with a tomato sauce!!!(but it was delicious!!)0 -
wow, lots of new peeps, greetings all!
murphy, just been reminded that I promised to write, now that I'm back on the PC I will get on that this afternoon (I hope).
oops - hi again  if you put your recipe in a post and then pm the post number to mercy, she'll add a link to the recipe list. For snacks I mainly rely on hb eggs, cheese, nuts, really dark chocolate (90%+) or berries and creamEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I would love some recipes please, all the ready made pastes are high carb. I am a vegetarian and would be using quorn in place of chicken, i have just been stir frying it with either garam masala, or chinese 5 spice, and adding peppers and mushrooms, and this is the lowest carb meal i do, but these are both 'dry' and would love to have a proper curry. My mum made a lovely korma once with almonds and cream , yum!
i have to say that i actually am no more fuller or eating less in the way of calories than prior to being on a low carb diet, and i ate probably 180 plus carbs a day. I also have no more energy (which i was looking forward to :-( ) and my brain no longer seems to be able to do sudokus as easily.
I didn't have weight to lose, just some fat around my tummy, and i am losing bits of centimetres off other areas, but my tummy still has the same measurement. My doctor said that the tummy area is the first place to store fat, and the last place to let it go, so i will continue to persevere!0 -
looking for cherries to use in the cookies and found that at sainsbury's both fresh and frozen cherries were 11.5 carbs per 100g, fresh raspberries were 4.6 carbs compared to 4.9 frozen, and , shockingly fresh blueberrys were 14.5 carbs compared to 6.9 frozen.
Does the water in the fruit freezing make them heavier, and if so, why only the blueberrys and not the cherrys, and why would the raspberrys go the other way and have more carbs frozen.
I am sure that blueberrys have an even different carb count in my books.

Most of the pastes are relatively low considering the amount you use - the sauces are a different matter though. Cream and almonds are good, whizzed up cauliflower is also a good thickener and onions are slightly higher in carbs but form the base for many curry sauces.
Are you drinking enough?!
It has been shown that a lower carb diet positively affects abdominal fat loss in women with type 2 diabetes. In fact I just posted a link to a study on a thread earlier today. Here you are:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3138148/
Whether those outcomes might be mirrored in non-diabetics is a different matter but as it seems to be good for all the std health markers even if you don't lose much weight I'd stick with it anyway, even if I didn't have problems with my blood sugars.Eat food. I'm veggie too, my current favourite Indian curry recipe is below. The original was without Quorn, I have chosen sometimes to add it in when I need additional protein in my menu.
5g carbs and 12g protein per serving without Quorn.
6.1g carbs and 16.1g protein per serving with Quorn
Paneer masala with spinach and coconut:
INGREDIENTS
2 tbsp sunflower oil
1 tsp black mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp ground turmeric
2 red chillies, slit
3 spring onions, sliced
3 garlic cloves, sliced
2.5 cm piece of fresh root ginger, chopped
50 g dessicated coconut
300 g paneer, diced
200 g young spinach, chopped
100 ml Greek yogurt
400 g Quorn pieces (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Heat a wok until moderately hot.
2. Add the oil and mustard seeds.
3. When the seeds pop, add the cumin, turmeric, chillies, spring onions, garlic and ginger and cook for about 2 minutes, until golden and fragrant.
4. Add the coconut, Quorn (if using) and paneer and cook until the paneer becomes light golden in colour.
5. Stir the spinach through the mixture and as soon as it is completely wilted, remove the wok from the heat.
6. Stir in the yogurt and serve hot.0 -
I have another recipe for a Thai curry, which requires some 'Thai curry paste'. I find it difficult to source veggie pre-made ones as they commonly have fish sauce in (although not all).
So several times instead of using ready made, I've made my own paste up by whizzing in the blender various bits:
Ginger
Garlic
Lemongrass
Chillies
Cardamom seeds
Coriander
Little drizzle of oil
It actually comes out really well, full of lots of layers of flavour, and you can control how hot/mild it is. HTH.0 -
Hi everyone sorry for not posting but had a hectic week. It started on Monday with the funeral of my husband's uncle, then I've been helping to sort his house out, and then towards the end of the week DH has come down with a bug so I've had more than usual to do.
Despite everything I managed to keep Low Carb and am pleased to report I have lost 2lb this week.
Menu:
B: Flax porridge with 3 cherries & 6 small blueberries.
L: Scrambled Egg, 3 sausages & mushrooms. Peanuts2 lamb chops, roasted celeriac & aubergine, mushrooms. 4 squares 81% chocolate
