Ordered a duck crown from Tesco, they're on offer at £5 instead of £7.50

They didn't have the duck crown in stock so the subbed it for.......................................3 packs of duck and apple sausages, which amongst other things contained honey :( To add insult to injury I was charged the full £7.50 :(

Needles to say I sent them back

Hey guys, sorry not read right through the pages..

BUT I have come back to low carb again, this time I am experimenting.

Any suggestions for some meals? Like rice / bread / potato substitutes, Sauces etc?

    I have 5-6 stone to go :O

cauliflower makes a good sub for
rice - grate or chop in the food processor then steam for a few minutes or fry with spices and coconut milk
mashed potato - don't add liquid as it can go quite watery, a bit of cheese is good though
pizza base - mix cooked cauli 'rice' with grated mozzarella and bake

    bread - try oopsie rolls
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Minihauk - after the first week my weight loss stalled for several weeks. I only kept going because I felt so much better eating like this but I must admit I cheated a fair bit.
Darly - there are so many recipes for bread substitutes around the internet that it might be easier for you to look for one that you like the look of or have the ingredients for. I make one with soya protein and wheat gluten which isn't everyone's cup of tea. I tried a flat bread recipe made from soya flour yesterday but it came out like biscuits, nice biscuits mind you...

Minihauk - I stayed around the same weight for 3+ months, went on holiday and was pretty good and gained 2lb, lost it in the next week and then have lost 3lb this week. Admittedly I have been eating a bit less due to stomach problems but sometimes a shake up does us good ;)

darlyd - mazzers has done a lot of baking / tasting and this is her recommendation for bread

There are lots of recipes that Mercy keeps up to date on page 1 so have a look.

    Welcome back darlyd :T
If you can borrow The Dukan Diet from local library or find it cheap in a discount bookstore or charity shop, the sauces are flourless and I just sub higher fat yogurt or creme fraiche than the recipe states.

For breading, I've read thar water chestnut flour (not starch) from Asian shops makes a good low carb sub.

I'm not a fan of low carb baking because I don't believe it breaks the muffin stuffin' etc but I'm heavily outnumbered by enthusiastic LC bakers here whom I'm sure will be happy to share recipes.

OH makes great mashes with swede, turnip, celeriac and fennel as well as oven chips using swede.

andrewsmum - I always always specify no substitutions now - you're lucky you didn't get duck Winalot :D

Thanks both. That gives me hope, lol.
I've just been to the carvery with DD for dinner. I was very good - had some turkey and a little gammon, cauli, green beans and a spoonful of leeks with some soda water to drink :T
I have a cauli so am going to try the pizza with it tomorrow.

elantan - I have done night shifts and they definitely play havoc with eating, sleeping and general wellbeing. You just get used to a sleep pattern and then you have to shift back to night sleeping and then back again to day. Hated every minute of it so understand.

Personally I am not like some others as I have certain snacks that I really enjoy and space them through the day so that I have something to look forward to. My snacks happen to be an almond pancake with 2oz raspberries and a little cream, 10g 70 - 85% chocolate, handful of nuts or seeds some days and a lactofree milk cocoa at bedtime. I allow for them in my 40 - 50g carb allowance. However I am fortunate in that I don't have to worry about diabetes or sugar spikes.
I did find that when I made low carb chocolate cakes I scoffed the lot in one day so haven't made them again but the whole was only 18 carbs so I suppose it wasn't too bad. It must be your decision but this just helps me as I have been at it for a year now. This combination also helps with fibre which helps keep you going ;)
I'm almost scared to ask this, but is it possible that some such as as elantan are just not ready to LC completely due to her shifts?

The Hay diet has ben successful and some have been on that regimen for years. I believe some of the slimming clubs have adopted it in one form or another. Could that be adapted to a shift pattern for elantan? Carbs on nights, protein on days and never the two shall mix?
