Hi Mercy babes :A You got a bargain there ! :T
Got my kefir from the Polish shop, it is like pouring cream in consistency and no additives.
Er, I don't eBay. OH has already taken the now baggy trousers and skirts to local hospice shop.
Rummaging in wardrobe this morning I found a size 14 Fenn Wright Manson red linen jacket at the back which now fits and a navy wool Jean Muir pencil skirt which I'm not sure what to do with because I don't think Crocs would really go with that0 -
<high fives confused76> going out to buy more trousers but this time rummaging in charity shops cos OH is thinking this is getting expensive.
Yesterday bought two pairs black linen trousers Marks and Spencer, scarlet linen Marks and Spencer skirt, Monsoon black linen skirt and a black cotton Marks and Spencer Blue Harbour tshirt - all from Oxfam.
Having lunch out as well.. sunny here
I'll be stocking up on additive free kefir from my local Polish shop, I love it poured on strawberries mmm
Getting my carbs only from veg, fruit and dairy, not eating processed food or drinking alcohol, not eating additives and trying to eat organic (when I can find it) and upping my fat content..is working for me..;)
>>high fives Edwardia back<<
ooh sounds like you got some shopping bargains! I think i need to hit the charity shops too!
What is kefir and what does it taste like? You've got me interested...
Sounds like your diet is the same as mine...i'm additive freeI am starting to feel a lot better for it as well
Today I bought a khaki waterproof mid thigh jacket with hood for £2.20. Something i've wanted for a while :j
Mx
yeay! that sounds like a bargain! :j0 -
Encouraged by my rummage this morning, I went through my entire wardrobe and the overflow in part of my husband's much bigger wardrobe, plus my tshirt drawer.
Not only did I get into the Fenn Wright Manson jacket and Jean Muir skirt, I managed a sheer silk chiffon Giorgio Armani long-sleeved round neck collarless blouse (not that I have anywhere to wear it these days) and a vintage Vivienne Westwood dress. so in the unlikely event that I get invited anywhere vaguely arty I can now rock up in Vivienne Westwood, Salvatore Ferragamo slingbacks, Raybans and scarlet Fenn Wright Manson linen jacket in a cloud of Chanel No 5
I never thought I'd get into any of this stuff again, I just kept it for sentimental reasons ! OH now looking worried that I'll want really expensive clothes but my life isn't like that now. I'm more into Crew Clothing, Seasalt, and Jack Wills tshirts, cheapo linen trousers and Crocs
Czarnow kefir from Poland is 75p for a 400g bottle, and it's like thin yogurt but sourer I guess.
Definitely additive free though I did have a couple of bits of OH's KFC Wednesday !!!0 -
Wow Edwardia, check out the designer gear
I think i'll have a look for some kefir, sounds nice and it's good to try new things0 -
confused76 - There are two basic kinds of kefir: milk and water. They look very different but the principle is the same: each is a Scoby (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast) which you feed with sugared liquid to create a fermented beverage. Milk kefir looks a bit like cottage cheese and is slimy, with the result being akin to skinny yoghurt. Whereas water kefir looks more like stewed apple and gives a tart, fizzy 'almost lemonade without the sugar' result.
Obviously milk comes with it's own sugars, water you add sugar to. (Not honey, the anti-bacterial properties can mess with the scoby.) But they are really simple to keep, they just need minerals to grow and sugar to eat.
Personally I didn't get on with milk kefir but I liked water kefir and love my GBP - which is essentially a refined water kefir. I'd recommend getting it from Jim at http://gingerbeerplant.net/
Edwardia - if you want a starter so you can make your own you could do worse than ask on your local freecycle/freegle.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I googled kefir and it said it is no good for those who are lactose intolerant. Is this the same for the water kefir? The water kefir does sound nice.Weight loss 0/2st

The weekend of fermentation is off to a cracking start!:j
My water kefir is still a bit sweet after 24 hrs. I'm letting it sit till the morning then will refresh it with eggshell too. Not really bothered about using first couple of batches, will allow my sweeties to get big and strong, then they can show mamma quite what they can do
Checked my stock of fresh ginger - I've got 2 big buds! Put the bottom of the corm in water and I'm waiting for my own ginger plants to be realistic:) I've tried to grow ginger before to no avail. Turn my back and it's at it big style :rotfl: Had to buy some more for culinary use
My completely experimental red pepper kimchi is mellowing in its final container. Squashed it down as much as poss but will give it another good squashing before bed.
I need to do a few things then sort all for making sauerkraut batch No2. If i don't feel I can give it all my heart - lots of fine chopping involved - I'll make it tomorrow.
I firmly believe that having good and happy thoughts whilst making a food thing gives it better properties. I like to put love and light into my food. Seeing as sauerkraut takes minimum of 3-4 weeks to be real, I need to be really up for it to maximise the benefit.
Imagine an unhappily and hastily made thing fermenting for 4 weeks - nah. Not worth the effort :rotfl:
Anything alive feels love, and feels better for that.
Big love to you all!

Sounds like something I should try, but gbp/kefir? May be being a bit thick but please clarifyI want to have what you're having :rotfl: EDIT - ok I get it, may be getting some of THAT now :rotfl:

No. Water kefir is totally different thing though it works in the same way. I have heard that using milk kefir is ok for lactose intollerance as it changes the nature of the milk and provides the bugs to digest it. However, if you want to try one I think you'd feel and likely be, safer with the water one.
Try googling water kefir, it makes a fine soda type drink. I believe. Mine are still too new to give you any results chez Mercy but daska has some and is putting voddi in hers to good effect, apparently :rotfl:

Check the label to see if it's pasteurised. It likely will be as the containers may well explode otherwise :rotfl:
Unfortunately the pateurisation process kills all bacteria, even beneficial ones. It'll still taste nice but it's not really 'alive' anymore.
If different, let me know. They manage to sell Benecol etc without the need for hard hats and wipe clean clothing so It may be good too.:rotfl:
