Thanks Murphydog. Although I have been low carbing for a while, I still get confused over the fat issue. I *know* I need to eat lots, but saturated gets such a bad press I assumed it would be better to eat less and more unsaturated. I bow to your greater knowledge (because you know stuff and I am still learning) and will eat more fat whether saturated or un. I had a chicken caesar salad with bacon for dinner and am just eating some mascaspone and a spoonful of peanut butter for dessert.
Yes, it's hard to read - see - through the nif, naf and trivia and downright lies, that really does cloud peoples perceptions of what to eat/what not too eat, it's no wonder the nation's in the mess it's in!!
Dinner sounds yummy :T0 -
sheila your menu looks great and i really fancy trying the almond pancakes - are they nice?0

Hi y'all.. ISP engineer came this morning and renewed a cable from front door to hub and tested stuff and changed settings on my laptop.. so x fingers ! I've really only skim read, my bad.Hope everyone well and enjoying sunshine if poss.
Besides recipes on page one there should be a list of videos. Anyone able to do that ?
I've mentioned Dr Donald W Miller Jr MD before and his lecture on YouTube entitled Enjoy Saturated Fats: They're Good For You about three times now, for example.
daska has a couple of favourites on YouTube as well, one by Dr Andreas Eenfeldt and one by Dr Stephen Chandler.
There's also Gary Taubes, Dr Robert Lustig, The Skinny on Obesity, The Men Who Made Us Fat etc.
Brunch - Omelette with spring onions/scallions (depending on your nationality), vine-ripened cherry tomatoes, shallots, HG chives cooked in ghee
Questions I remember..
Does Lidl have half price offers every weekend ?
Yes, more or less half price on a few items every weekend - to see them go to www.lidl.co.uk and put your postcode in to get the ones at your nearest store. You can sign up to an email to get the offers.
Are there any veg offers on atm ?
For veg offers generally, look at the websites. People who read my blog get to see them on there when I have the time to post them and I'll be updating it on Friday. With the Internet connectivity issues I haven't been able to do this.0 -
sistercas - yes they are
I just use 50g ground almonds, 1 egg, salt and a little fizzy water and mix. Too much water makes them too runny so a little at a time. Fry on each side for a couple of minutes to set and serve. I usually make this do 2 days, one pancake per day, and have with raspberries, cream and a little sweetener.
Edwardia - thanks for the information
murphydog999 - thanks for the encouragement
Minihauk - well done with getting back again.
Mercy - did you enjoy the football?
daska - how is the hard work and baking going?
Are we all enjoying the sunshineOut with youngest granddaughter at the park this morning, having fun on the roundabout, swings etc. and playing hide and seek. Out with dog in woods this afternoon after grandson and other granddaughter come out of school.

I've never seen this recipe with fizzy water Sheila, or salt for that matter, is this something you invented? What difference does the fizz make?0

Thanks Sheila, I have to say it is good to be back. I am suffering a little with my knees due to the change in diet, but I'm sure it will settle soon.
Question: Some time ago there was a guy (I think it was Eric Pisch) who said all salt was evil - but in order to avoid leg cramps I need to eat salt. Is it ok to eat a few salted nuts regularly to make sure I'm getting enough salt? Or should I be eating/taking something else? e.g magnesium or some such?
Thanks.
Food wise I have been very good.
B = some flax stuff (linked the other day from H*lland andwith a spoonful of peanut butter and some hot water to mix, with some double cream. It is lovely and is filling too.
L = chicken breast and salad with caesar dressing and two individual portions of cheese.0 -

I use half of the recipe and leave out the oil and sweetener. Sometimes I substitute a little of my flax / seed mixture instead of ground almonds, about 20/80 seed / almonds, for variety. Makes 2 largish pancakes or 4 smaller ones.
Minihauk - well done and I hope that the knees settle down soon. I use FITDAY to enter what I eat and tweak it each day to make sure that I get a balance of of the nutrients. Once you have entered the food it saves it and you can just click on it for another day. Having said that, I tend to eat quite a lot of the same things. If you use it remember that it is an American site and the carbs need to be adjusted if you create a food using info from UK packaging.
I also bought a supplement of 5mcg Vit D and 500mg calcium today, effervescent tablets 20 for 69p in Lidl. I find that the only other shortage I usually have is in potassium but I usually get around 3200mg a day.0 -

thankyou i will definitely have a go at these x0 -
Minihauk, re salt, yes you will find that stopping processed/heavy carbs/bread etc your salt intake will reduce quite a lot. This happened to me and my husband and we both got leg cramps. I always add salt to food as I've never had a BP problem, but do have salted nuts.
However, if you would rather try other methods, magnesium is also the key - and vital for sooooo many bodily functions - and you could try either supplementation, or foods such as very dark chocolate, seeds and nuts esp. almonds, cashews and brazils, peanuts, peanut butter, avocados, to name but a few.
On a different subject, I've got loads of rhubarb fresh out of the garden, has anyone got any low-carb ideas for it?0
