elantan - eggs would be better, eggs are as near to a perfect food that you'll find.
Ancel Keys, the guy who came up with the whole cholesterol thang did admit in later life that dietary cholesterol doesn't have anything to do with cholesterol levels because our livers make the majority of it.
So don't worry about eating eggs unless you have an allergy !
I've got three eggs for breakfast and one to bind the burger though ... Surely 4 per day is plenty ?0 -

elantan - I think lentils are lower carb than many other pulses but still quite high, probably better for when you have reached your desired weight. I am doing low carb whilst being almost completely vegan and have lost a stone in about 10 weeks. Rose Elliot and Celia Brooks Brown both do excellent recipes for low carb vegetarians.
can i ask how many grams of protein are you getting per day?
also whats the recipe for the porridge type breakie ...
thanks0 -

Hi you chatty lot.
I can't stop peeing - either drinking more water or losing the fluid retention! That has to be a good thing.
Day 3 and feeling pretty good. Hope I don't suffer from carb flu (I don't usually, but after my binge, you never know.
I have osteo arthritis in my knees too. Some days it is really difficult to walk, so I am very cautious about excercise. May have to buy a callenetics dvd to try, but no dvd player, so would have to use laptop.
Sorry I can;t comment on people's menus as I'm trying to get it right myself.
Can anyone tell me what fats are unsaturated? I have coconut oil, peanut butter (JS basics), butter, salad dressings, double cream and full fat greek yogurt. Do they sound saturated or un?
Thanks for all your help.0 -
May we ask why you are enquiring Minihauk? The only unhealthy fats are trans fat, these are fats that have been processed, generally by heat, which makes them unstable and toxic.0

Hi Elantan, I think around 50 or 60 grams a day judging by Rose Elliots books. I have to admit it is mostly soya at the moment because I don't eat eggs and eat very little dairy. But also includes peanut butter, nuts, wheat gluten and very occasionally beans or lentils. I try to eat lots of veg too so am eating a lot more than others judging by what they post on here but am still slowly losing weight and I haven't even mentioned how much dark chocolate I still eat.
The flax porridge is
2tbs of flax seeds ground up in a blender
1 tbs of protein powder (I use soya but you can use whey protein)
1/2 or more tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp or more vanilla essence
small knob of butter
I pour boiling water over these and stir, adding more water until it has a gloopy porridge consistency and then eat with some yogurt. I really like it but my family are not at all keen so maybe it is an acquired taste.0 -

Hi folks!
Madly busy this week so just been reading mostly. Not much to report, still same, still being good.
Had a good bargain last weekend, 2 'vision' glass pans with lids - £5!
Not used them yet. Came up well in dishwasher and they're European so shouldn't explodeWill be checking carefully for any chips first, just in case. Still, they retail for £30 -40 new
I love charity shops :rotfl:
Been using hard anodised as they reportedly give less bad stuff to food whilst cooking when compared to other non stick types. Glass is better though, I believe. Like i said to Dad on Sunday - I'll be able to watch the food sticking to the bottom with these! :rotfl: And they will go into dishwasher! :j
Just need to make a stew / curry or summat. Too warm to do that at mo.
Ooh! Rooney's scored! :T
Anyway, sauerkraut is appreciated wherever it goesAll at Mum n Dad's liked it on Sunday, my mate Mick came round specially to get a big tub of it too
Am putting it all in tubs in fridge tomorrow as it is perfect so will be making some more at weekend.
So glad it worked well. Will use some leeks instead of onion this time and more carrot. Maybe other things too

Thanks Murphydog. Although I have been low carbing for a while, I still get confused over the fat issue. I *know* I need to eat lots, but saturated gets such a bad press I assumed it would be better to eat less and more unsaturated. I bow to your greater knowledge (because you know stuff and I am still learning) and will eat more fat whether saturated or un. I had a chicken caesar salad with bacon for dinner and am just eating some mascaspone and a spoonful of peanut butter for dessert.0
