Morning all
Durham_mim - your indian omelette sounds nice, how do you make it? I have loads of carby stuff in the house cos of everyone else eating it which is good that they are eating it but not good at i have no will power at the moment!
To everyone mentioning cramps. I used to get really bad leg cramps so make sure i have low salt on my food and that gets rid of them.
I had musli this morning. That was the final straw. as i was eating the sugar coated cardboard i decided to pop to shop and buy leafy veg and sort myself out. i just dont enjoy food like i do on low carb and am fed up of the asthma. and after eating the musli at 8am, i was starving again by 8.30!!
So I am 7lbs more than i wanted to be for holiday. But could be worse with what i have been eating! Got to try on my clothes and start packing today. Wish me luck! :rotfl:
today i am having
breakfast - musli
snack - chicken
lunch - chicken & bacon in mayo with salad
tea - low carb sausages with salad or spinach.0 -

As I said in a previous post yesterday I am in the process of changing over to a low carb diet. I don't have a lot of low carb ingredients in my cupboards at the moment, money is tight so it will take a while to build up a good store cupboard.
I have ME so cannot always make food from scratch, so I probably will continue to have the odd slice of Gluten Free bread from time to time. In addition I have a lactose intolerance and due to the ME am gluten free too.
Hello from another (much recovered now) MEer. I find when I am overtired (in that ME way) that the urge to have something carby is very hard to resist so I try to limit what's in the house.
I need to keep the carbs low because of diabetes which I am controlling through diet so I have plenty of incentive but there still times when I'll eat something carby. I've promised myself not to feel guilty - I'm not perfect in any other way so there will be times when I eat off-plan. It seems daft - if I'm going to eat it - not to enjoy it.0 -

For the omelette mix egg & cream/milk as normal. In a frying pan melt a little butter/oil. Add chopped onions (about 1/2 onion should be enough) Add 1tsp turmeric, chilli powder (as much or as little as you like)I usually use about 1/8 tsp, & salt. Once onions have softened add egg mixture and cook as for normal omelette. This is the only omelette I like.
I too have loads of carby stuff in the house for the rest of the family. My husband is following Slimming Worldso is eating loads of carbs.

Just a thought, as I don't know how to go about it; I think it would be a good idea to put edwardia's list on with the recipes at the start of the thread, as a reference for people.0

She adapted ballet exercises so that they were not a strain on her back or other joints. I have ME and find the exercises extremely gentle but very effective. I used to have Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis in my knees and still cannot manage weight bearing exercise like jogging. You are supposed to do 100 repetitions of each exercise but I started off with a few stretches and about 2 exercises doing only 10 repetitions each. I am now (2 months later) doing 3 lots of stretches and 4 exercises at 50 repetitions each. Callentics books and DVD's should be available on Amazon though I have not looked. I bought my book back in the 90's.
You might find that aqua-aerobics works for you. The water supports your joints and provides resistance at the same time. As I have replaced hips, one of them revised twice, I find this is better for me than e.g. jogging.

elantan - eggs would be better, eggs are as near to a perfect food that you'll find.
Ancel Keys, the guy who came up with the whole cholesterol thing did admit in later life that dietary cholesterol doesn't have anything to do with cholesterol levels because our livers make the majority of it.
So don't worry about eating eggs unless you have an allergy !
And yet his legacy lives on, and on, and on, and no one has yet had the courage to stand up and say, loudly and clearly enough, that this man got it wrong.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Hello all! Most of you prob don't remember me but I was active on this thread a few years ago when I completely changed my way of eating from the mainstream 'low fat' thinking to low carb :T
Best thing I ever did. I slacked off for a year or so but I'm back on the wagon, doing my version of clean eating/lowcarb/low GI type shenanigans. I don't have weight to lose altho its coming off anywaybut I feel and look so much better when I clean eat...so that's my motivation.
I've done a few recipes on my blog if anyone's interested, and I'm gonna do some more. My daily diet is usually
Breakfast: Porridge made with half water/half milk or my homemade mueasli. Fry up on a weekend.
Lunch: Chicken or cheese salad, or homemade soup.
Snack: strawberries, celery or a grapefuit (clean eating but not strictly low carb sorry!)
Dinner: Spicy Chicken or fish plus veggies or salad. Coleslaw. Homemade curry or stir frys.
Here's a couple of pics of some recent experiments in the kitchen

PS - don't forget to watch The Men Who Made Us Fat on BBC2 tonight 9pm. Altho he's only saying what we've known for ages, but good to get it out to a wide audience.0

One leg is feeling decidely shorter today..
murph, usually I agree with ya but that list is too long IMO. I think it would be better to stick up video and website links on the first page.
I wasn't a purist when I started low carbing. Although I wasn't eating ready meals, I didn't bother making mayo - I bought Hellmann's, cheese coleslaw and tartare sauce for example. I drank diet Pepsi too.
Since being diagnosed with sight threatening retinopathy in March, I started making changes and my eyes are starting to heal. To be told that there's a good chance that I won't need treatment at all later on is amazing. The power of healthy food.
So personally I'd want to see advice to cut out bread, cakes, biscuits, pasta, rice ,rice cakes, noodles, beans, pulses, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, breakfast cereals (including porridge and muesli) as a minimum.
I am heavily outnumbered however, by people consuming oat cakes, muesli, baked beans, oatbran, porridge and rice cakes so it ain't gonna happen.
There are quite a few accomplished low carb bakers on this thread who may feel that I'm wrong in believing that eating low carb muffins doesn't get dieters out of the habit of eating them.
In my eyes, it's a small step from low carb muffin at home to eating that muffin in a coffee shop sitting there looking tempting..whereas if you have lost the craving for sweetness, it won't bother you to just have the coffee.
However, the bottom line here is that if people eat fewer carbs than they were eating, then they'll lose weight. The more carbs they cut, the more weight they lose. Simples.0
