Hi jenijen27
Lots of nice people on here with plenty of experience in the low carb lifestyleThey have really helped and encouraged me x
6lb is excellent but are you following any plan? If you are breast feeding then you need to keep up the calcium intake so full fat probiotic / greek yogurt is good, not low fat as it has more carbs. Also make sure that you drink plenty of water, both for the diet as you need more and to stop your milk supply from decreasing.
Are you feeding just at night as she is 9 months old?
confused76 - I like yogurt with berries and have some seeds and flax as well to keep regular, if you know what I mean.
schoolhouse - well done with sticking to it. Nuts are good for you but not a bucket loadI love nuts and have trouble leaving them alone sometimes.
Thanks Sheila54.
I'm not really sure what plan I'm following really. At the moment I'm just eating meat, fish, fruit, veg, dairy and eggs.
I still feed DD quite a lot (1st thing, before bed, throughout the night and a one or two 'snacks' during the day) so I need plenty of calories and water.
Today I've had:
Brunch - 3 rashers bacon, 2 poached eggs and mushrooms fried in butter
Dinner - pork steak with spicy stir fry
Snacks - pineapple & cream, Greek yoghurt, chicken, cheese
Drinks - 1 coffee, 1 pint fresh orange, lots of water
Does that sound ok?0 -
Thanks Sheila54.

Hi jenijen
I don't follow a plan either just 'low-carb.' Just 1 thing from your list, the pint of orange juice is pretty much pure glucose. 1floz is 3g carbs so 1 pint (20 floz) = 60 grms carbs  If it's vitamin C and anti-oxidents you are after, berries are much better and much more low carb (blitz them if you like to add to your yogurt).
I've posted this before but there is lots of food info on this site http://nutritiondata.self.com/0 -
When you are breast feeding then you have to be careful that your baby gets the nutrients that she needs
http://www.livestrong.com/article/372188-low-carb-diet-and-breast-feeding/
I used to be a midwife, a long time ago now, but would keep your carb count higher than normal low carb diets until you are feeding less often. Maybe now is the time to up the solid food so that you can cut down on milk, but it is up to you. The last thing that you want is a fractious baby as the first few weeks on a low carb diet can be difficult whilst your body adjusts.
Off to bed, nite all x0 -
Sheila.. knee got a lot better but playing up since i did a bit of food shopping earlier.
Feels a bit tight again now.
Back in work tomorrow, have had 10 restful days but i had wanted to get stuff done tbh.
I am bowing out of lc, i cant seem to stick to it anymore so intend to cut calories and have what i want without restriction (except calories of course) for a months trial to see if i can actually lose weight without lc-ing.
I will pop in and out tho
well make sure you keep checking in on us! :A sometimes it's good to have a change and you can always come back, it's a revolving door

wow - you've all been so busy posting this evening while I've been comparing organic prices. (OH and I have decided after replies from supermarkets about GM feed to animals, to go as organic as humanly poss).
schoolhouse - thank you, I am very relieved by the newsHow's the sugar carbversity going ? And you too sistercas ?
jenijen27 - welcome and :T for the 6lbs If you can watch The Men Who Made Us Fat BBC2 Thursday 9pm it'll introduce you to the horrors of fructose (in juices) I'm sure. You can check the GI of any food on the University of Sydney website https://www.glycemicindex.com which should also give you the carbs. DrAndreas Eenfeldt is a Swedish doctor who low carbs and has young children so his website https://www.dietdoctor.com might be helpful.
(((bossymoo)))

Looks like a really good programme starting on BBC2 Thursday 9pm which seems to blame sugar for the obesity crisis. Listened to a review on Radio 5 yesterday and they all said it was very good. As a low carber may be worth watching

Hello all - don't know if it's been already mentioned, but this article was in the guardian yesterday:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/jun/11/why-our-food-is-making-us-fat
Basically all about the increase in corn and sugar (in various forms) in our diets compared to 20-30 years ago. Even if I wasn't low-carbing it would make me think twice about buying a lot of things:)
I also think it's a shame that the diabetes specialists/departments don't really appear to consider this kind of thing when advising people on an appropriate diet to reduce blood sugar.
Really pleased to hear about your eyes Edwardia :T0 -
Hi sweaty betty thanks for the good wishes and the link and thanks to bluenote1 as well :T
Dr Lustig mentioned in the Guardian is the endocrinologist who answered my questions about HCFS in 2010 - at the time it was banned here but it can be found in food now as glucose-fructose syrup and I'm wondering why there wasn't a big stink about this !
What will be interesting is whether there's a sudden drop in sales of sugar and soft drinks..0 -

Fascinating. Blows a lot of conventional 'wisdom' out of the water. e.g. kids who get driven to school naturally make up for it with extra physical activity throughout the day.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Read the Guardian article and one of the saddest (if that's the right word) things in there is
'Many of the scientists I spoke to are wary about going on the record because they fear their funding will be taken away if they speak out'.
How sad it is that honourable people who presumably have followed the path of science to better knowledge and understanding are swayed so much by money. It's just another form of corruption.
I've long said sugar should have the same status as drugs, cigarettes and alcohol, over-consumption has the same affect ill-effects. For the NHS to be spending so much money on special equipment, beds, ambulances, diabetes - and associated illnesses - drugs and after-care for an illness that is, in the main, self-inflicted, is sick - no pun intended.
Also, the sooner we stop faffing about trying to think of new names to avoid calling people fat the better!!
It is hopefully testament to growing awareness, on this board at least, that as Edwardia pointed out this thread now has 600 pages and over half a mill. viewings, a lot more than the weight watchers and slimming world ones (more excuses to make money).0
