TDQ at least you have 6 weeks to put it right, and your right it will hurt, and don't worry about the girl she probably thought there wasn't any point if your coming back to Blighty soon.

I got that book with Glamour and it's fantastic wish I'd had it years ago, but you live and learn, things are still going ok with rhe ex, only every now and then I think it's bound to fail cos I'm carp at this relationship thing.

Yes, agree with everything eco says -

I have 5 weeks to become a svelte & toned goddess type :rotfl::rotfl:

I also wish that book had been written about 20 years ago ... could have saved myself years of disappointment

My car just failed it's mot  at a cheeky £54 - seems wrong somehow

It needs a new windscreen - £70 excess _pale_ & a new hazard switch. Funny how it didnt fail on any of the stuff the renault garage said it would when doing their 25 point safety check ( after they'd just replaced the bonnet catch which was unsafe) As I suspected, they were just playing the 'lone woman comes to dealership & probably hasnt got a clue so we'll try to scare her into paying for unnnecessary work' card

Dumb really as now they're proven liars I have no intention of taking my car there for its service & new cambelt :p :rotfl:

Off to buy my dad a pub supper in a bit but will be back later ...

Lula. I don't think it was the 'lone woman comes to dealership & probably hasnt got a clue so we'll try to scare her into paying for unnnecessary work' scenario. That is the nature of main dealerships whatever the gender. I put egg on their faces a few years ago. A previous van went intro the dealership for a service. I was assertively informed that the windscreen wipers definitely needed replacing and that I had the wrong ones on there. In front of loads of customers I loudly informed him that the wipers had been replaced six months before by themselves and I had the receipt at home that would prove it. I gave a few people a good laugh at that moment and never went there again.
I now go to a backstreet garage who provide a very good service. They charge around £50 an hour for labour. The main dealership charges around £90 and still tries to do unnecessary work.

Find a reliable. recommended backstreet place if you haven't already done so. The dealerships may have fancy displays, free coffee machines, courtesy cars, staff that wear suits and ties, and glitzy showrooms but they are wolves in sheep's clothing. I actually got banned from a local dealership because I told the manager what I thought of him. Although what I said was probably correct, maybe there are times when I should keep my thoughts to myself a bit more. When someone just gives me a whole load of BS like that, I'm afraid that I call it the way I see it.

    Hi

I've been to Oasis tonight to return a couple of things. Left almost in tears though. They have so much gorgeous stuff in! I wandered round, eyeing it all up, muttering to myself 'clothes won't make you happy' until I thought I was getting some strange looks and left. Oh dear. It's kind of made me more determined to get myself sorted out though. I want a nice house and to be able to buy a few things from Oasis now and then. Therefore I need to pay off the credit card and save up to get the house sorted and work hard to get it all done. I've still got some vouchers though, so I might treat myself to something with those in the meantime.

The jeans sound good, Lula. If they were in the sale and fit well, then they were a bargain after all.

I've just checked quidco and the full amount from vodafone (90) has now tracked. Now I'm deliberating between O2 and orange for my broadband to hopefully reduce my monthly bill and earn some cashback.

I'm also in the process of updating my CV. It's well overdue and means I can jump on any potential jobs when they're advertised.

    How's everybody else doing?

    Gwenx

I agree. Find a good local mechanic, preferably through word of mouth. I used to go to a dealership until I needed a new sump and they tried to charge me 250 quid. I found a good mechanic a friend uses and I think he charged me less than 100. Wasn't a Toyota part, but my car's so old now, I really don't care as long as it's not a seive like the last one! I've taken my car there ever since with no problems.

Before I left the dealership, I was sat there waiting for my car one evening when two guys came over to where I was sat, but hadn't seen me I don't think. One asking the other 'how many service plans have we done today?' I'd just had a whole schpeel (sp?) about this plan myself and had turned it down. Obviously it must be a big money maker for them if they're trying so hard to sell them, I was so glad I'd said No!
