I can recommend Bunn Leisure at Selsey Bill on the south coast! We had several lovely holidays there! Even in height of season the pool and other facillities are not overcrowded.

We've had a Bronze or Bronze plus Caravan and the only fault was a ladies bra left in one of the over head cupboards, otherwise they were clean and tidy!

  • I feel I have to join in with this debate.

I am (to my shame) a complete snob! so last year when I was persuaded to take the little ones to Butlins in Skegness I packed a brown paper bag to wear over my head - well not quite but I had all of the stereotypical images buzzing in my head and assumed it was going to be awful.

    ...........It was fab!!!!!!!!!!!!

My children (18mths and 5 yrs at the time) were thoroughly entertained and happy from the second they woke up until the moment they fell into bed at night. and when the kids are happy and occupied we were happy and relaxed.

The communal areas were kept clean and tidy including the pool (ok not quite up to a posh health club standard but comparable to or better than the public baths we take them to at home)

We were in the standard level accomodation which was very basic (and a bit 70's) but was clean and adequate.

The Redcoats were genuinely 'into' their jobs and were never off duty. If you bumped into them at anytime they made a fuss of the kids and were generally very pleasant and happy.

My children have not had a week since we went last year when they have not referred to the holiday or asked when we are going back.

Last night I booked for us to go again!!!!!!!!!! this time with absolutely no silly snobby thoughts - we have however booked a silver standard apartment this time.

Roll on July is all I can say.

PS. Remember to book through Quidco for cashback.

We've been to Minehead quite a few times and we're just looking to book again for this year, the kids love it, just don't expect 5 star, they're chalets, you get clean sheets, just buy some disinfectant & have a bit of a clean when you get there that's what I always do.

If you have a problem with your chalet when you get there just tell them straight away & they'll probably move you to deluxe if you go on enough!

Don't book Haven, we went in September to the Prestatyn one & it was awful & that really was filthy!

We've also been to Pontins in Prestatyn which we weren't keen on either.

If you're really worried about going somewhere 'grubby' why not see if you can go to Disneyland Paris (not sure about vouchers), there's no way you can find fault there! It's superb!
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D

By deciding not to go to Butlins you are probably depriving your 5 year old of one of the best holidays they will ever have.
Butlins is for kids, they do love it.
I took my neice (4 year old) last year and she never stops talking about it. Every week she asks 'can we go to Butlins'.
Her mam and dad won't take her, they are snobs and more concerned about what the neighbours think. Call me an inverted snob if you like, I am a professionally qualified person, live in a lovely home in a lovely village, and have been going to Butlins for over 40 years and still enjoy it.
I find people who critise Butlins have either never been, been years ago, or stay in the budget accommodation and expect 5 stars.
I stay in 4 star hotels regularly and the Gold Standard Accommodation at Butlins is as good. The food is also good at Skegness.
The entertainment for children in my opinion is second to none.
I must admit I have never been in July/August. We always go in May, stay in half board accommodation at least silver standard and do not have the noise others have mentioned.
If you really care about your little one having a good holiday give Butlins a try, you never know you may even enjoy it. I am sure your 5 year old will as I have never met a child yet who doesn't.
  • I have been to minehead and bognor many times. I would never stay in silver or standard again but delux is excellent. it is not that much more and if there are only two of you they knock more off. I was told when we were at bognor last month that they have brand new silver suites but like the gold accom you need at least three people.
    Entertainement is great
    food ok
    great swimming pools

if you want the beach go to minehead its lovely there
I must say i would always prefer minehead and go for half board because they give a wide choice and then you do not have to spend much while you are there :T

Yes, but do the rest of the guests really deserve being invaded by snobs? :D

we took our 2 boys to minehead last yr they were almost 3 and almost 9 then paid £74 for 4 night break in april

they loved it ! i agree with earlier in this thread - butlins is what it is,no we wouldnt have gone if we didnt have kids but they love it !

we stayed in basic s/c accom and found it fine, nicely decorated and sufficient

my sister went half board but didnt rate the food all that much

the pool was fab ,if a little chilly ,evening entertainment for the kids was good, good fair etc all in all was impressed with the whole thing

we would def go back again but no way would we pay £360 in may to do so !!!

    stick with portugal ;)
  • Well we went to the Shoreline at Bognor back in March and the accomodation in the hotel is excellent. The food in the hotel was also excellent and we thouroughly enjoyed it. The camp was still the camp, little un loved it, we hated it but this break was more for him than us. We are off to Warners for ourselves in the summer. Probably take him back to Butlins again next year though!
The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j

As this thread has been resurrected, I thought I'd let you know we're off to a Gold Caravan at Haven, Devon Cliffs in a couple of weeks time. I just couldn't do Butlins after some of the stories on here. :o The Tesco vouchers are going towards the kitchen in our new house as we have nearly £1000 worth of deals now!
