Oooh gratz Horace. Thanks to you and PR for the push. Ive upped sticks and gone to leech internet and electricity off my friends in their shop as my neighbours were doing DIY above me again, loudly!! Either hes really bad at DIY (cos hes been doing it for 9 months now!) or hes doing DIY work from home, which I can probably complain about to the residents association.
I got a letter from the tax office the other day telling me I have to complete a tax return... well I knew that.. waste of paper.. and another one telling me I owe £2.30 in NI! Oh well better pay that!
And must get on cos someone else has sent me urgent work for 2day which I am trying to fit in cos I cant bring myself to turn work down!

Hi everyone,
Thought i had a nice quiet afternoon ahead of me. Just acouple of things to do, then a humongous email from a client who I am writing a website for - it is a change this change that email - or in my eyes - do this do that and don't charge me anymore money for it....
Not looking forward to it really. Sometimes my creative juices dry up and i can't make the text sound anything other than a bit repetitive and boring....
Also have a nasty dealine coming uo for some kitchen fitting articles. I am not a natural DIYer so loads of research is required.
I now have exactly one hour to do all this before I must cook my lovely husband and children a fufilling and nutritous meal and make sure the house is tidy before going for my run.
I really need to stop working mornings. I can't keep up.0 -
got my business cards through today and just about finished the website. just a couple more things to do
have had another horrible day at 'temping'work today!
got to stick with it and do the massage stuff part time for the time being and hopefully things will take off. reading all this and trying to stay motivated0 -
Good luck, Horace! I sympathise David P - it's horrible having to do work you hate - but it's a means to an end. We'll try to keep you motivated - so moan, groan and ask questions here and we'll help all we can.
I'm in my own office all day - hurrah! I have a tile catalogue to proofread. Can't wait ..."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Well folks..that's it..it is now real. I went to see my New Deal advisor at the jobcentre today - what a pessimist he is, he had a new claim form ready and waiting:rolleyes: I said that I hadnt come to sign on but to sign off although as yet I have no customers (I know they will come especially now that advert has gone into that magazine because that will at least target the people I am aiming at). So I have signed the paperwork to say I am working for myself:cool: and my case will be closed on Thursday after I have signed the paperwork for my last scraps of money so I shall be due £151.73 (or will it be more seeing as the JSA has gone up?) plus £100 back to work grant - that grant will most likely be shoved in the business account. :money:0

Horace - good luck with being officially self-employed! Are you OK for cashflow in the meantime? It might easily be months until the first cheques start coming in.0

morning all!
Congrats Horace, welcome to the scary world of S.E! lol you'll do great!
Been busy this morning, thankfully, didn't do much yesterday so need to make up for it today.
Have a good day all0 -
I have a few savings and I can always do some mystery shops which will help. Maybe I could go temping too - I can still type:rolleyes: I will manage plus I have various coin jars with money squirrelled away so that I can use those if needs be.
Its scary and exciting at the same time and I plan to go on a chamber induction and networking event on 5 May and hopefully that will bring some business my way plus I may well get a short term contract with business link to mentor people:j God, I am full of plans.:rotfl:
Well best crack on - need to go to the post office to send forms to my accountant otherwise she will be shouting at me:eek:

Hi all,
That's great news Horace, I'm sure you will make a success of your new business - it just won't always feel that way!
I had a fairly productive day yesterday, did two sales in the morning, delivered an order and made a booking for another sale and then tried to get my books into some kind of order ready for tax return. Spent the morning doing housework so far but computer is on so I'm moving towards getting some work done!
Hope everyone's having a good day.0
