If you click on the 'quote' button, it brings up the post you want to quote with QUOTE=bla bla bla at the beginning and /QUOTE at the end IN BRACKETS
You can delete parts of the quote so long as you leave the bracketed bits at the beginning and end - be careful not to delete so much as a bracket.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

I agree that traditional publishers pay very badly. I have done the SFEP course for working for non-traditional publishers, and would recommend it. I quite enjoy working for non-publishers, but I do like getting my teeth into a meaty book and get more satisfaction from that than more bitty stuff. I'm more of a nuts and bolts person myself and don't like the project management work, although it is much better paid. Editing/proofreading web sites is also a good area to work in - and there are plenty of those that need input.
Re professional indemnity insurance - I thought about it years ago but have never had it and I don't know anyone that has. Nobody I've worked for has ever asked if I have it. Like all insurance, it is a gamble, and you can manage quite well without it until you need it. Because I have an office that clients visit, I have to have third-party insurance, and that is crippling enough - €150 a month for third-party and equipment insurance. I tried getting it lower, but couldn't. In this case, I decided that it wasn't worth the risk of not having.
Freelancers can also join the NUJ, whether they are working in journalism or not. Again, not something I have ever thought too seriously about, but probably well worth it for some.
I agree that one shouldn't join the SFEP just as a way of trying to get more work, but I do think it is excellent for networking and, if you feel at all isolated, being able to contact others in a similar situation and discussing the finer points of grammar, for example, can be quite a comfort at times - a bit like MSE, but more specific to work. Having a "buddy" with whom you can do this is great too. Not that I have either, and my imaginary friend is a bit thin on advice sometimes.
As an aside, do you subscribe to the World Wide Words email magazine - www.worldwidewords.org?"Green pastures are before me,

I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Good Morning Everyone.... Monday again
Weather is a bit ropey at the moment which is good really coz I hate being in the office when its beautiful outside.
Have already sorted my in pile and done my office to do list, just need to get dressed and get on. Mondays are always my most productive day in the office.
Have a lot to get through - loads of scanning and emailing (so boring and time consuming) bank a/c's to be checked (could be scary) and invoices to be done. All bookeeping will be bought up straight today. Will be working in half hour sections again. I will not overdo it though coz then tomorrow I will think I deserve a day off and then suddenly it will be Friday again. I am going to be good this week and very organised.
Anyway best be off and get out of the pj's - hope you all have productive days.0 -
Morning all.
Today I have read through the stuff from my accountant and will sort out what she needs and copy it and send it off.
I rang the Housing Benefits people at the council who are sending me a form as I am now self employed (officially):j now they are asking for the originals of my accounts - I never send them originals as they have a tendency to lose things:mad: so I will have to go to the Neighbourhood Office to show them there, the silly people have asked for audited accounts - now I don't think I need to provide them with audited accounts, I have no income and have only paid out.
Am charging the batteries for my camera so that I can take pictures of this wedding stuff - it will have to be a case of ebay here I come:rolleyes:
More words were added to one assignment yesterday, still needs a lot of padding. Have had a humungus headache for the past 2 days (change in cyclical pressures methinks) so haven't been able to concentrate on much:rolleyes:
Have a good day all,0 -
Just received the following email from my local Printing.com - it may just help someone with business cards and flyers especially as they are on BOGOF til Thursday this week:D The offer is available at every Printing.com outlet.
Just a quick reminder that it's the last week of our Buy One Get One Free on all Business Cards offer (see https://www.printing.com/prices/special_offers for more details). Choose any two sets of Business Cards and we'll knock 50% off the total. Every size. Every style. Every finish. Every quantity. So whatever takes your fancy, you'll be saving. Its our most popular offer ever so I'm keen you are aware. Whether you need to stock up or have a new member of staff, I'd hate for you to call next week and have to pay full price!
It's also the final week of our eye-catching Half Price Shaped Flyers offer. My customers have ordered these to promote their businesses and have used them as low-cost mailers, hand-outs, postcards and even as heavyweight leaflets.
If you think you'll need business cards or flyers over the next few months, then don't miss out on this deal.
I need to receive your order by Thursday 30th April to qualify and save you money.
Speak soon
