I am studying for the Diploma in Events Planning with the Institute of Events Planners - I think the course cost me around £500 (I did get 10% discount because I had studied their Diploma in Professional Wedding Planning although I think that if you book online you get 10% anyway).
I organise all sorts of things - although I try and avoid kids parties because I don't particularly like children and cannot relate to them. Mind you if you think that you don't have to work when self employed you are mistaken because we tend to work more hours for less money than our employed counterparts:eek:
I think that your first step needs to be to contact businesslink or your local chamber of commerce (free) as both run courses to help you set up your business e.g. tax laibilities, law, marketing, etc.
Good Luck - best crack on...I have been on FB all afternoon playing Bejewelled Blitz which is too much of a distraction.0 -
lol H i've been playing bejewelled for most of the afternoon too and on my farm oh dear.0

As for kid parties its not for me. Abit selfish LOL for my kinds anytime I dont think In would cope!! My patients level runs out very quickly so by the third event I would end the party ealier.... LOL.
I understand the tramedous amount of effort needed. When I worked before my OH was a mananger and I used to help him out with all sorts. I basically did the job for him and he earned the money. I really enjoyed Its a hard job but maybe am excited by the unsocialble hours the need to be on my toes and the satisfaction of it at the end of a job I find fulfilling. (I hate routine!!)
I shall not keep you enjoy your assignments am off to enjoy my roast0 -

Morning everyone, I finally found out how to change my subscription to this thread! Jees I am soooo not technical at all!!
Thanks for the welcome everyone and Horace if you need me just yell, I am not up my own !!! like the one you know, I promise. Also the wedding fairs I usually do for a average sized stand in a hotel is usually around £100-£120 including VAT and sandwhiches. ( I have done a fair few over the past years and has been quite profitable non have been over that - the Larger Regional ones tend to be a little more and the Noational ones eeek!!!! I don't do those)
Well I went to watch PINK last night in Manchester OMG what a fantastic show and was right at the front- did a bit of networking too lmao - actually met a girl who owns a Bridal Store nicely compliments the Honeymoon's I organise so will be in touch with her this week!
Well this time of year is really quiet for me and as I am just getting back off MAT leave I really need to get some Networking done and marketing- must admid though marketing is a real challenge for me as I haven't a ruddy clue on what to do or how much to budget in for or well not a flamin clue - - any ideas where I should go for help? I need to get it all sorted for the run up to New Year as it is one of the busiest times of year.
Just realsied I've wrote an essay- so think I'll shut up now!

I am Denise Meredith on Facebook and also Sponsalis (my group - not that I do much with it). I am now, as of yesterday, on Twitter so I am learning to tweet with the rest of the twits:rotfl:
I can spend my days on FB playing Bejewelled Blitz, Be a Tycoon, Yoville and Cafe World, !!!!! Wars, blackmarket and Mousehunt (now how sad is that?)
JP - try not to fret about the under charge - it could have been worse, it could have been £800:eek:
Travel - I am glad that not all travel consultants are up their own backsides - this one really took the biscuit anyway I hope she is happy with BNI as they put me off with their heavy sell and emphasis on referrals - I joined 4Networking instead and will my passport membership can visit any 4N breakfast meeting in the country and have 3 10 min business meetings at each one. I am off to Redditch tomorrow - I went out this morning to make sure that I remembered the way and on the actual approach to the venue, stopped to let a pheasant strut across the lane and then had to swerve on the way back as the stupid thing just hopped out of the hedge with 3 buddies:mad:
JP - you can actually attend free courses with businesslink - if your local one doesnt offer them, try contacting your local chamber of commerce as they may run them for businesslink. The courses are well worth attending. Also if you want to network then I would recommend 4Networking - you can even network online (https://www.4networking.biz) which is what I did before attending a breakfast meeting. I am off out on 5 November (will have to stay overnight as I don't want to drive to Cirencester in the dark) to yet another breakfast meeting as I shall be delivering a hamper.0 -
Am I the only person in the world who doesn't use networking sites? My huband and I have an agreement not to use them at all - any of them. It keeps things simple - no old boyfriends asking to be your friend (or whatever the terminology is). No saying the wrong thing or telling people when you have had an argument - stuff like that. At least here I am anonymous.
Been kind of busy to day. It is the holidays so i am trying to go downstairs and do stuff with the kids when i can. Then come up to my office when i need some peace. Which is regularly! The best thing about the holidayts is not having to take them to school. It meant I had a really productive morning - not losing an hour walking there and back.
Got lots I should be carrying on with - but I feel like my day is about over. it is the daylight savings thing. Had a great morning - but feeling tired and hungry now.0 -
Megs - business networking sites like 4Networking are different to Facebook - they're all business people for one thing. FB has its uses just as twitter has its uses. I am not trying to convert you - I am just saying.
Had a horrible job to do today - empty the kitchen bin only silly me had chucked a milk carton (screwtop lid) in there that had yoghurt in it well it must have been a bit too warm and burst and there was this foul liquid at the bottom of the bin. Try cleaning a tall waste bin in the kitchen sink - I had to part fill it with water and pour in some zoflora anti bacterial disinfectant in it. Surprisingly I can still smell this foul liquid - the smell must have gotten up my nose:rolleyes:0
