ps hope the parental visit goes ok Horace...your Mum sounds exactly like mine btw...first thing she said this morning was..aren't you going to tie your hair back it looks scruffy!!0
-
Hello everyone - thanks for the kind replies.
Horace - hope your parents were well and didn't stress you out too much! My mum always used to comment on my weight too and never stopped worrying about hers until about two weeks before she died she said one good thing was that the cancer was helping her lose weight.... priorities!
And well done to MM for the wedding fair. People often don't buy at these things - they browses and compare and they will follow up the best options. So you will get some sales from it I am sure.
I am feeling much more relaxed having quit my job. Still got 4 weeks to work out my notice - but not worried about spending some time relaxing at work. Got afew loose ends to tie up but otherwise I can goof off as much as I like (they can't fire me can they...)
Got an interview on Tuesday for an office manager job.I ahve been told to expect a 20 min "task". I am expecting some sort of computer officey type of thing. Maybe mail merge or powerpoint. I will have a bit of a brush up tomorrow, but I am not too worried. It is a council position - so does anyone have any experience of what the standard tasks might be? I ahve to travel for the interview and this means gettig up at 5.30am to catch the bus at 6.30am. Then a one hour train ride....hope it is worth it.
Tried on my interview outfit today and I have lost weight as it fits better....always a confidence boost!0 -
Sounds like you had a good day Mabel - I need to get cracking for mine which is on 27 September:rolleyes:
The trip to my parents wasnt that bad - I did get one comment - "I don't know who cuts your hair but it doesnt hold its shape well does it?" bearing in mind that my hair grows quickly in the summer and I haven't had it cut since July then it hasnt done too badly:D I had to do a job for my mum - draw round her feet so that she could order some AA fitting shoes from a mail order company (the only other shop is in Bath and she doesnt want to go there). I felt like a right nit to be honest with you and not helped by dad making comments and mum making me laugh:rolleyes: I mooched around the garden, looked at the chinese trumpet vine which never flowered so it was cut down and last year she dug down about 2 ft to the roots to try and dig it up and eventually sawed through the roots only to have it grow back this year and flower for the first time in 3 years:eek:
We discussed what should happen to dad if mum should die first - I have been given instructions to go across to see one of mum's neighbours to ask for the phone number of a cleaner than she knows. Then mum was wondering how dad would cope without her as she does everything for him - so I said that he would find a woman to which mum said that there wasn't another mug out there to take him on:rotfl: I then said that she shouldnt worry about it because I would put him in a home - to which my dad suddenly said "you will not!" thus demonstrating that he has selective hearing after spending the whole afternoon saying pardon and twiddling with his hearing aid:rolleyes:
I came home from my parents with some freshly picked tomatoes and a small fillet of beef - mum bought two tiny fillets (more like joints) and cooked one yesterday but dad refused to eat it (he is a fussy old b*gger), now I have it and will slow braise it with beer. They also showed me an aerial photograph of their house - it seems that someone has been doing an aerial survey and they took some photos which they went selling door to door - mum is now expecting a huge rise in her council tax for daring to have a tandem garage, an extension, a nice front garden and 3/4 of an acre of garden (the biggest in the entire road) - her garden is so big that 5 houses in the cul de sac have their gardens back onto the side of hers.
Mum told me that she had had an order from the undertakers (somewhere up north) for 50 with sympathy cards only she just hadnt had a chance to make any more - she makes wonderful decoupage cards.
I have a busy couple of days ahead - I really need to sort out my office and the living room as I am having this man come in to view my office so that I can have some reasonable adjustments paid for by the government (I wonder if I could persuade him to stand on the steps and replace the 3 bulbs that are out in this room?
Mabel - thanks for handing out my leaflets - I shall be handing out your postcards too:D
Megs..good luck for your interview.0 -
Glad the 'visit' wasn't too bad Horace. My dad has selective hearing too...actually, so do my children and my DH!!!
I had a call from a lovely woman about 5 minutes ago. She desperately wanted reflexology today. I do have a free appointment later but I told her i'd just had a cancellation so could fit her in. Didn't want her to think I wasn't busy!! I'd actually booked part of the afternoon off to do an assignment but business is business I guess!
Guess i'd better go and do some studying now instead. Hope you're all having a good day xx0 -
My office is looking a little tidier - it is still in the process of being sorted out but I am a little bored with it so came on here. I need to go to the village later to put a cheque into the bank and go and buy a baby boy card - the photographer over the road is now a dad again as his wife gave birth at home whilst their little nipper was asleep in bed on 6 September. What is kind of sweet and kind of strange is that he has photographed some of his wife's experience and posted it on his blog:eek:
I shall soon be ready for the Action for Blind People chappie on Wednesday morning and on Wednesday afternoon I have managed to book an appointment to see the day spa co-ordinator, I want to be able to promote the dayspa in some way on my stand so I am hoping that she will give me a voucher for my prize draw too (she doesnt know that yet).
Today, I have been trying to book a place to see Brad Sugars (self made multi millionaire) he set up the Action Coach business and he comes out with some wise words. Now the company that I have the strategic alliance with are doing all the sound equipment and the extra screens and have said that they will try and get me a place but I thought that rather than relying on them that I will book my own place. The cost is £49.95 but I am hoping to wangle a ticket for £20 - I would have to travel to Worcester to see the great man plus I can always pop to the Pear Tree at Smite for a spot of lunch as it is only a short drive from Worcester Rugby Club where the talk is being held.
Well I suppose I had better think about tackling some more of my office - I have piles of paper everywhere so I am just going to dump it:D
Muddy - good thinking on your part to tell your client that you had a cancellation.0 -
Time to moan and procrasinate...
i was really happy about this huge job I got... but I dont think i thought it all the way through...
i have to work most evenings and weekends for the next 7 weeks to get it all done... and at the pace im going (cos its so hard) i dont think im going to get it done. think i will have to tell the agency that they are going to have to get someone else to do half of it, or give me a few more weeks time to do it in... either way this effectively looses me money... cos either i do half the amount of work for half the amount of money in the same time.. or the same amount of work but it takes me longer therefore i have even more time when i cant do other work and i have a 10 week odd slog of working all the time.
anyone got any ideas?
my depression isnt letting me work all the time atm.. its kind of a really cant be arsed/dont want to do it/dont want to do anything and curl up into a ball type feeling :S
the agency wanted the first 5k words by 2moro to check and im no where near... i was on 2.3k... but then my laptop turned itself off when i went in the shower yesterday afternoon and lost about 300 words.. which is about 3 hrs work atm cos it is so hard! the stupid new software that i have to use for this job doesnt have an autosave function.. grr and im so used to my other software that does.. so i was so peed off that i couldnt work at all last nite... and havent done anything at all today yet..
i keep wanting to sleep all the time... which doesnt help... and my OH tries to help by waking me up which just makes me grouchy...
have a blood test on friday again... the docs want to poke me again and check for diabetes and aneamia again... joys0 -
Hugs & hugs & more hugs Star! Can you use one of those talkey into yoke things while you are feeling a bit low then type it up at a later date? If I was anywhere near you I'd be round offering my typing to help you out - although it may not be in proper english! Are you on any meds for the depression? Sometimes they maybe need changed if they're not working as well. Its an awful dark hole to be in, I feel for you pet, x
Horace, I have just had my mother on the phone and she is so drunk at 1.30 in the afternoon I cannot quite believe it. She too goes on about hair, weight (I was size 10 when I was 20, now fast tracking 40 and a good 14 with curves), dust, housework etc and I now let her be on speaker phone and get on with whatever I need to do. I don't visit too often, which is a shame as she lives in a beautiful part of Spain now but she would do my head in. Thank you for thinking of me too H with the recipes! I spend £50 in the supermarket on Saturday and haven't got over it yet!
Well done Mudbath on your new client - I hope you have her relaxed in no time and she'll sing your praises from the rooftops! And Mabel, I'm glad your do went well for you - I tend not to buy at things like that but come home and follow up things then.
I have been extremly busy this morning and have 2 days takings in the till already!!! I hate Mondays especially as I spent Sunday working and feel like I have had no weekend at all. So when the takings are so good, it is a real boost!
Have a good day everyone,

Starx - you need to get on the phone to the agency and explain the job is much more than you expected and that you will have to requote. Explain ou want to do the work justice and will need extra time to complete it. Tell them you could rush it - but they will get a half - a***ed job. Say it is your reputation you want to maintain and that you had no idea the work was as complicated as it is.
This will give them the choice. They can accept a new quote, look for someone else and waste the work you have already done, pay you what you have done already (then you can wipe your hands of it) and still have to find someone new. On balance they should accept a new quote and hopefully you will be able to relax a bit more and feel better about it. Don't keep pushing yourself if you know it isn't possible - just be professional and honest and the agency should be able to compromise.
Bets of luck0 -
Thanks TCM, nzmegs... I do really need to contact the agency...
nzmegs... ive been meaning to recommend a couple of sites to you for copywriting etc..
https://www.translatorscafe.com - you can register for free and there are quite a few english/english jobs for copywriting and sometimes proofreading/localisation.
I saw a nice job on there the other day where someone had a text written by a US person that they wanted changed so that an UK person would get it... they wanted all the place names and landmarks changed to UK ones etc. This site is free to bid on too
the other one is proz.com there are less jobs of this type on there but its worth signing up as a non paying member just in case.
you can get job alerts by email for both sites
off to talk to the agency
thanks again

Star good luck with the agency:D
TCM - I will let you know when I am ready to send the package - I bought yet another cookery magazine today:rolleyes: Now I really must limit my spending - I decided after going to the bank and buying the baby boy card (I also bought a few other cards too:rolleyes:) that I would drive to Webbs Garden Centre down near Droitwich. I could not believe my eyes as their carpark was filled to the gunnels with coaches - and I cannot understand why people would want a day trip to a garden centreI came away from the garden centre with a cookery magazine, one of their calendars (it contains £38 worth of vouchers), a bottle of bramley apple juice (Pershore College grown and bottled), 4 prepared hyacinth bulbs and was told that I was mad to have bought 4 as I would have to pay for the 4th one separately - I have 4 hyacinth glasses so I didnt need 6 bulbs:rolleyes:, a homemade cake and a lovely silk flower arrangement. I am particularly pleased with this little arrangement as it comes in a glass with fake water, it had been reduced from £7.99 to £1.99, one of the silk leaves was hanging off and although I tried to fix it when I got home, I decided to chop it off in the end - now I have an everlasting arrangement to go on any wedding fair tables:cool:
Best carry on I guess:rolleyes:0
