    Afternoon all.

I havent long come back from the village - I had to go and buy a 1st birthday card for my cousin's little scrap who has his birthday tomorrow - my mother would have my guts for garters if I didnt send a card:rolleyes:

I was attracted to the charity shop yet again and came out with a newspaper (given away free but I paid for it) and a net curtain which I thought would make a handy and pretty tablecloth - I am such a cheapskate:rotfl: I was chatting to the lady in the shop and she asked me why I was buying a single net curtain so I explained about the stand at the wedding fair, that got us talking and she is now going to chat to her friend about setting up a business decorating venues as they both have experience having done a few friends weddings already.

Today, is phone call day and skype day as I see I have already missed a call from my chum and fellow planner come mentor down in Gosport.

Snow - I hope you find the contact useful and when it comes to the Spring Fair, if you fancy meeting up let me know:D

There is only one 2.30 in a day for me too TCM - like you its the afternoon one.:D Let's hope you manage to get over your sore head today and don't feel guilty about snapping at a 19 year old with attitude - they have to learn to respect their elders:D
  • Thanks All, its good to read about other peoples exploits.

Thankfully this week has been better than last (no clients)
I'm doing some self-promotion in the healthfood shop next week, I've no clients booked yet so can offer 1/2 price taster sessions in the centre above the shop on that afternoon.
Didn't get a good nights sleep so today I've no go - finally worked out what I can pay to creditors to fend them off until my appt with CCCS.
Looking forward to the weekend with BB as we'll be off to see the aces cafe motorbike run.

Horace - I hope you're feeling better - I'm near the south coast so a bit far away. If you ever get chance to try Bowen Therapy then do it.

Hope everyone has a good weekend

  • Hi all, not been on in a while but back now. I have just quit the phd (paid) that I hated, hated the people the work, hated everything about it possible, to run my business full time so todays a big day for me and a scary one! It had to be done though, no way could I expand my business without giving it 100% and that is what I want to do. Eeeek! I hope everyone is well and looking forward to the weekend.

Well done Charlotte it is great to take the bull by the horns and go for it. You will never know of your don't. I also haven't been on this board for a while but I am sure eveyone will remember my job woes - well guess what. I resigned today!!
I had a really bad week and was up set at having been told i couldnn't attend a work function - even though i had done alot of work towards it. Simply because I had to be at the office answering the phones. Been in that office for 3 years and not evven allowed out for a measly two hours to take pride in my work. Anyway spoke to husband and he said - chuck it. So that's wahat I did and I feel great!!
Also came home yesterday to a letter asking me to attend an interview for a job with fewer hours and more pay. So more time to devote to writing. Even if I don't get the job I know the writing will still bring in enough money.
it is going to be tough money wise but I am confident I can build up my business within a few months.
In some ways I sort of don't want the part time job - but I know that i need at least some time around other people and so a small job 3 or 4 days a week will work for me.
So 4 more weeks in the rate race then it is full time self employment. exciting!
I wish you luck Charlotte - but will you complete your PHD? You might regret not doing it one day. Plenty of time though I guess.
  • Hi nzmegs! Congrats on quitting! It sounds like we are in very similar boats... it feels great to leave it behind and make the big decision doesn't it. There is no point forcing yourself to stay in a situatuin that makes you unhappy. I don't think I will finish the PhD, I have my degree and I really don't need the PhD unless I want to stay in Science and have come to the conclusion that I really don't! The way that I have been looking at it is that it has been a job for the last year and I have got a Masters out of staying for the year. If the best reason I can come up with for staying is so I can have Dr. after my name them I am doing it for the wrong reasons!

Well done Megs on quitting your job - you were too good for that place especially after they shoved you into a corner:mad: Good luck for the interview too.

Well done Charlotte for going it alone - it sure is a scary thing but you soon realise you can choose your own hours and work to suit yourself without some poxy boss breathing down your neck:D

Nappentass - my back is a little better, I dosed myself up on Wednesday with strong ibruprofen although my back did sieze a bit today as I was standing chatting in the charity shop.

TCM - I shall copy a few recipes out of the Good Food mag and if you send me your address, I can send it on to you because it will only get chucked in the recycling bin when I have finished with it so it may as well go to someone who will appreciate it:D

I used skype for the first time today and thought it a bit echoey but that's probably me but it was great to talk to my friend and mentor in Gosport for free:cool:

Good luck to everyone with the big changes!
I think I broke my internet telling you lot I procrastinate, I've not been able to get on it since. Should have got loads of work done, should have... I was having to cost things and then price them and it was such a long drawn out job and so dull, plus I wasn't sure if I was doing it right as I'd never done anything like that, I could only work on it for a few hours a day so it was a little bit late. Hopefully it is all spot on, I over estimated and underestimated in some places so it should be better than I have submitted but we won't know for ages.

I've been using Skype too Horace, it took me ages to set my mum up but we've got it working alright now, just need to explain the messaging too as I'd save a fortune!

OHHHH Nzmegs!!!!! Well done you on taking such a big step, I wish you well and hope it all works out for you, I'm sure it will. I'm a big believer in the "everything happens for a reason" way of thinking and this is maybe the best thing could have happened for you to spend more time getting your own business up and running.

And Charlotte!!!!!!!!!! You too!!! Good luck and I am sure everything will go really well for you. Its sounds exciting!

Horace, thank you for thinking of me! I will PM you my address and email - I adore Good Food Mag and when I am not as poverty stricken I will get my subscription going again! Charity shops are great places, I call them "boutiques" where I pick up designer gear for about a quid!

It has been quieter for a few days but I have had a small mountain of rugs come in for washing and fixing so I am going to be busy. I might work tomorrow to try and get a head start as yesterday I was fit for nothing! The hangover stayed with me till after lunch the begger! Have alot to do book work wise too so I might do that tomorrow too from the comfort of the living room! I have my Saturday girl coming today so I am going to escape and purchase a pair of boots for work - i have discovered it is better to get a decent pair then my back and feet don't hurt the same.

    Have a good weekend everyone,
    T
  • Something weird has happened! I bought some parts for my car from suppliers using paypal. First lot I paid for on the 25th August and it was taken out of my bank account on the 28th August. The second lot from another supplier I paid for on the 2nd September and nothing has come out of my account?! It says completed on paypal, both payment and bank transfer and the guy hasn't contacted me to say he hasnt had the money so not sure whats going on-how long does it usually take to go out of your account-anyone know?
  • Hi everyone,

Its good to see everyone pushing forward with everything and its been the same for me.

I'm 3 weeks into my new freelance contract and all is going ok. All change as well as im moving out of my parents and into rented again for about 2 months. I'm really starting to feel i'm getting somewhere as it had been ages since i've had any work longer than a week.

Lets hope it all keeps up :j
