hi everyone remember me? everybody seems busy as usual
just thought id give an update on my massage business
the guy who did my website has moved to manchester and hasnt done the google thing for me and isnt answering my messages! so no different there then
im still temping at that horrible job but sorted some things out with the manager there and things are a lot better.
recently got offered to do a 'days' work at a local solicitors office for their staff so really looking forward to that, but nervous as well as this is my first 'big' job
cant get my head round it that for about 5 hours work it would take me 3 days at temping job! if i could get more of those my life would be a lot more relaxing and rewarding helping people de stress etc
so got to get my head down and work harder at it, keep picking myself up and stop feeling sorry for myself, get off my backside more and stop blaming other people, even though some of it is their fault lol!!!
sorry for whinge but needed to be done, i am being positive honest
good luck everybody

Welcome Carrie85 :-)
Hi David- i remember you! Well done on your 'big job'!! you'll be fine try not to worry, just think of the money :-)0 -
Welcome Carrie!!! The self employment game is tough going at times but really rewarding when it works well and the first year is always difficult! I'm into year 4 and its still blooming difficult!!!!!!!
Hi David - glad to hear things are picking up for you - temping is hateful when you want to be somewhere else doing something else. Hopefully now the solicitors will recommend you to others and rave about how fab you are and how you destressed them completly.
I am going to try the 15 minute thing too. I reckon if I do 4 15 minute bursts throughout the day that is an hours worth of rugs fixed and I think I could get through alot. I read a bit more of DM's book last night and she says no one tells you about the long hours and working for less than the minimum wage etc etc and I thought "how true!" but it is a good book, very informative and full of things anyone in business should maybe look at.
Off for 15 min burst!

Welcome Carrie
The first year is hell - I haven't long started and often wonder what the hell I have done but then I think of the alternatives e.g going back to being a PA and general dogsbody and having to do jobs that I hate whereas now I work for myself those jobs seem to be a bit more enjoyable:D It is hard setting up on a shoestring and I am getting there slowly. What is it that you do? Have you thought of joining the Federation of Small Businesses (you get free banking for life and a host of other things through them) and perhaps your Chamber of Commerce too as they have some networking events which may be useful plus they give out business advice.
Hi David - I remember you - solicitors are very sociable people and will talk to other solicitors and that will be a good way of getting more business especially if you provide a good service then you can give up temping altogether.:D
TCM - I am glad you like DM's book - I like it because she tells it how it is - the long hours, little pay etc.
I have sent an email to my accountant with some figures and she is going to put something together for me for this silly form. I shall include her letter with mine and send the whole lot recorded delivery so they can't say they haven't received it:rolleyes: I rang my local Neighbourhood Office today to get an appointment bearing in mind I have to send this stuff back within 14 days - I cannot get an appointment until the end of the September:eek::mad:
I am having a thoroughly bad day and my neighbours are going to be cursing me - when my car was last used the door was shut via remote central locking but now the battery on my car is flatter than a dead dodo so the alarm keeps shrieking, I cannot disconnect the battery either and although I have jump leads cannot find anyone to assist and if they could assist I can't drive the car anyway to get a bit more juice in the battery:mad: I called my ex at work this morning and he is driving up from London tomorrow to sort it out for me. I really must get some RAC membership when funds allow.
Some good news though the company with whom I shall be working have updated their website and will be sending me something to put on my site - I have already put something but will change it:j I have worked out a fee to charge them too, I am thinking that I may charge between £25-50 per hour depending on the work needed for the corporate stuff.
I have my shiny new logos in place on my website although the webby folks havent put a link from the FSB logo to the FSB:rolleyes:
Hope you all have a good day - btw I class chatting on this thread as part of my work:D0 -
afternoon everyone
I too class chatting on here as "business" because I get loads of ideas and don't see that as time wasting! I tried the 15 min bursts - too many customers came in and I don't think I got anything longer than 10 mins! I have patched 3 rugs. Not too bad.
Trading Standards rang today and are writing to the collection people as they are in breach of their own code. They should not have disclosed any details to anyone other than the addressee and they should not have been nasty, threatening or abusive down the phone. I will wait to see what comes of it.
Shop really busy today although no great fortune in the till, the day has flown in. I did my first lodgement into my new account too!0 -
Afternoon all
I am feeling a little less stressed now that I have sent some information to my accountant - she is sending me a letter on Monday:j I have done a bit more tidying of the office too - its work in progress.
I need to tackle the pile of washing up in the kitchen too:rolleyes:
Have a great weekend all:D0 -
Hi all,
Hey Horace-get you with your new logos !!! Looking good :-)
Hi TCM glad you had a busy day and hope Trading Standards sort out those horrible people .
Feeling a bit bleurgh today-magazine is out with my advert in and I'm just on tenterhooks to see if I get any orders from it, everything seems to be at a standstill. Got all excited when I had that order the other day and nothing since :-(0 -
thank you for the replies mabel horace and tcm
just reading your posts does keep me motivated going through a positive one at the moment
i then lose interest and fall back and then something kicks me again to keep going.
i just cant afford to go self employed full time so too speak
ive been getting little jobs here and there massage wise so its ticking over, but have promised myself to go for a bigger push by the end of the month.
take time off and deliver some flyers etc, just wish the guy in manchester would reply to my
calls as i cant change anything on the website.
still, get things done cheap through friends really not the answer
have a great weekend all

David - its not the way to do business getting things done on the cheap with friends as they will always let you down. You need a website that you can change yourself, I got mine through printing.com with free hosting for 12 months and free update centre for the same period - I know that they will charge me when that period has finished. There are other companies I am sure that will allow the same where you can update your site yourself.
Mabel - give it time with your ad - which magazine are you in so that I can go and buy a copy?
Mr unreliable has let me down again:mad: he had promised to come up today to sort out my car but it seems that he has invited some folks to stay (I want to ask him to get a photo of them because I still don't believe the story that one of them is a chap that he goes skiing with - I have never seen any photos from these ski trips:rolleyes:). Apparently, he will be up sometime tomorrow and then as the cupboard is pretty much bare, he will have to take me shopping, if he had come up today then I could have gone to the butcher but i can't get there so will have to make do with 2 chicken quarters and some ribeye steak:rolleyes: I will have to find myself another man - someone who is a little more reliable:D
Hope you have a good weekend folks:D0
