Im tottally mesmerised by the iPhone mine does not cost a fortune, and i could be a heavy user if i wished because of the tarrif i have and still have a very low cost due to the phone being 2nd hand and also because i have a contract sim with o2 tarrif simplicity(under £15 per month) and can be cancelled at anytime if i wish to do so,you do not have to send the iPhone away to have a battery replaced if you have a little technical knowledge,an opening kit is widley available and instructions on opening the iPhone is all over the net and youtube.

I am on a low cost tariff with o2 and thought maybe i could buy a 2nd hand iphone and use it on this tariff. However, when i rang customer services they told me i would have to change this to at least a £35/month tariff to use the iphone. This seems to contradict what Wrack (above) suggests ie that you CAN use it on a low tariff. Can anyone shed light on this? Ta.

Simply sales talk to gain more, unlock the iPhone and put whatever sim you wish in it,i only switched to o2 two month's ago, prior to that i was a vodafone customer for the past 15 years but there current tarrifs could not match the simplicity o2 tarrifs.

depending on the contract your company has with o2 you can get a third of any o2 contract. I sat down and did the maths on it and got the iphone 3g 8GB on the £45 tarrif. This was reduced to £30ish which was better than continuing with my previous tarrif and had double the amount of minutes texts (or more).

It's not something you can just walk into a shop and ask for, you have to get a code text to your phone and take in proof of your employment with that company. Saying that, if you're a friend or family member of a person with that deal, they can recommend upto four people to get the deal but they have to come with you with their pay slip when you open the contract.

No there is a third type - people who value there hard earned cash and cannot see the logic of paying 10x the cost of a normal phone to have an i phone

    It makes no sense

I don't think of it as a phone, and rarely use it as such.

To me it is a computer. A very portable one at that. And at £222 a bargain for all it does (note it comes with £120 preloaded PAYG 3G internet/Wi-fi).

I like the iphone...waiting for the pAYG price to drop down a bit cant justify spending £342 on it!!!have looked on ebay not sure if they are genuine though

Think of it this way. I have a desktop computer that cost £850 a year ago and have to pay to use the internet on it! I does a damn sight less than the iPhone at £342 - and with the iPhone the internet is free for a year.

I say - bargain of the century (although it's early days yet - only 2009).

When a topic comes up with iPhone in the title, there will always be this debate about iPhones/Nokias/genericsmartphone etc.

I have an iPhone, it was shiny, I like shiny things. I had a nokia, I rate the iphone higher personally. Each and every phone has plus and minuses, but just ranting about your particular phone isn't going to change anyones opinion and in reality in regards to this thread it's completely irrelevant.

When buying any phone, do research and get hands on with the model you're thinking of buying. Caveat emptor & don't feed the trolls

Meantime, the deal in the thread saves money Q.E.D. moneysavingexpert.

It's amazing that an employee of McDonald's has that much disposable income for a luxury item ;)

    MD's pay quite well actually.

You can also get a discount if you work for John Lewis, National Rail, DGSI group and loads others. I'll get the list tomorrow if I remember.

To get the discount you have to take out the contract or upgrade through o2 and have to provide proof of where you work such as a wage slip.

There is never any discounts on the iphone handset itself even if you are staff, just off the line rental.
