have you even read that article? its a fake. Thus iphoney, unless you were being sarcastic.

Anyway, thats the whole point, i don't want them to be cheaper if i'm buying one now do i? thats the point, i'd want the newest one.

Maybe I should have put a smiley at the end, it was a joke. The old ones get cheaper when the new ones come in its the same everywhere. If you're always waiting for the newest version you'll never end up owning one.
Yes but OLED!!, IMO wait till the summer, I will.

My N85 has a OLED screen, very nice.

I agree with the previous poster who said the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. I have a Macbook and an iPhone and I use the iPhone a lot more. On o2 PAYG I get free 3G and free Wi-Fi via BTOpenzone, so the iPhone IS my internet access now. I check my emails at the bus stop and can get maps and StreetView of new areas when walking around. I use Facebook on my lunchbreak and watch movies on the train. I agree that it has its' niggles, but I think they will be (largely) resolved when the new software is released.

To compare a Nokia phone and an iPhone is not a fair comparison; the iPhone is a lot more expensive because it is a lot more capable. It's like saying everyone should buy Pentium 4 desktop PCs because modern laptops are not true to the idea of 'moneysaving'. They're not the same thing.

I bought my 3g PAYG iphone on ebay by selling my nokia N95 and my iTouch. Made a profit. I bought a turbo sim (ebay again) so I could use my current contracted SIM at £19.95 per month, 600 texts, 800 mins and unlimited internet per month.
I cut, copy, paste, send mms, use google earth and a load of other apps.

I'm paying a good contract plus I have a very nice phone/ipod to boot !

    IT CAN BE DONE !!!!

Ah, but how cool do you look with your Nokia?

    Not very.

With an iPhone, you look like somebody who falls for any marketing spiel they hear. For me, a person with an iPhone simply looks like they are trying to be cool, not that they are succeeding.

The success of the iPhone is a triumph of marketing over functionality.

My Nokia N95 has free turn-by-turn sat nav, cut and paste, Google Latitude and text forwarding, to name just afew things the iPhone does not have

Completely untrue. It does hardly anything compared to other phones.

you'll have to clarify that for me.....

The point I'm making is that if you don't want to play by Apple's rules (and O2's for that matter) then don't !

If you have a good contract your happy with stick with it. If you also want an iPhone with that contract, by a PAYG + turbo + 60 seconds of your time.

I had an N95 8gb.....believe me the iPhone is by far the superior piece of kit, inside and out.
  • Like a number of people I think iPhone are great devices but I am still holding before committing myself to a 18 months contract, I initially didn't go for the first generation because I thought that over £270 for the devise alone then to tariff plan from O2 was just too much for a device which was nothing much than a iPod which had a phone option. Most basic phone function that are present in basic phone such as the Nokia 6300 where not there (copy/cut/past, text message forwarding, MMS, video recording, blue tooth files transfer) to name few.

Then the 3G was release in summer 2008 and Whoopee the iphone as 3G function yes all the basic function are still missin but the price drop and 3G is enough to convince more people to go for the 3G most of them on a £35.00 which after adding the £100 for the handset cost still pay no less than £40.55/month to O2 over the period of their 18th contract.

As for the one who just did not want to commit to the 18 months contract, but still wanted to get their hands on the cool iPhone 3 G well their were in luck as it was release on PAYG for £350 back in December 2008 but even with a minimum top-up of £20/month they are still paying £37.77 per months over the same 18 months periods, so you can see my drift.

So for those who want the internet in their pocket and the experience of the iPhone but are on a budget my advice is to go for the iPod touch who run the exact same OS as the iPhone, and wont cost you a penny after the initial purchase of the devise. Like iphone user you can upgrade to 3.0 firmware when it will be release in June 2009 for under £10.00

Tottally agree, the sound from an iphone with a good headset is awesome, and not to forget the thousands off third party applications that is available if you jailbreak the iPhone(for those not aware of jailbreaking the iPhone)jailbreak is not illegal, the phone belongs to me and me alone, putting pirate software & games on the iPhone is illegal as is with any phone, how many people out there in the world have contract rights from music companies/artists to convert their work into a ringtone?

You have access to the same App, and if you want to get more of it and unleash the hidden function that Apple as decided to cripple you can at you own as unlike mentioned in previous post iPhone/iPod Jailbreak hack violates the Law read MacWorld April 2009 article also I would not recommend it.

With the iPod touch you can do pretty much everything that iPod user can including VOIP calling with the right app and a mic connection you can access the internet for free on WiFi hot stop all over the world, so far I used my ipod touch on a daily basis to access the internet while at work using free Wi-Fi access, I also use Wi-Fi access to access the internet when staying at my friends, I was also able to use free Wi-Fi access while away in France so the need of caring a Laptop is no longer require great when you like to travel light.

So my advice is keep you own phone go on the SIM only tariff that fit your need and go for the iPod touch.

what exactly is a 'turbo sim' ???

A turbo sim enables a "locked phone" to become a sim-free phone. Popular with high-end priced phones that are locked into crippling contracts. e.g. nokia, iphone. Mine is a wafer thin circuit sheet in the shape of a sim card and slots into my iphone piggy-back style enabling me to use my original contract sim. If the iphone needs repairing I would simply re-insert the PAYG sim that came with it and get it fixed under warranty.

    Wikipedia....

The Turbo SIM can be used to spoof the IMSI number and authentication key (Ki) supplied by the SIM card to the network, allowing network-locked phones (such as the Apple iphone) to be used on mobile networks for which they were not originally designed or permitted.

    Is it legal ?

Its a bit grey - you are not manipulating your own carriers SIM in order to bypass tarriff charges, you carrier charges stay as normal, so no loss to them. Apple have got their money from your purchase of the PAYG iphone and don't really have a right to limit your use of the phone strictly speaking because there has been no subsidy in the first place that they need to recoup. O2 (or AT&T in the states) could say they are losing out on a service contract but for people outside the USA, they would have never been able to instigate such a contract so they are not losing anything since it they are not offering service anyway. Rule bending but hardly crime-stat worthy...
