you'll have to clarify that for me.....

I had an N95 8gb.....believe me the iPhone is by far the superior piece of kit, inside and out.

I tried to clarify that for you by giving examples of things the iPhone cannot do that other phones can (copied below for your convenience). How much clarification do you want?

I would love to accept your invitation to believe you, but as you have provided no reason to do so (eg functionality of the iPhone) I am unable to do so. Mere exhortations are no substitution for evidence (unless you are an Apple marketeer's target audience).

My Nokia N95 has free turn-by-turn sat nav, cut and paste, Google Latitude, a decent camera, with flash, video recording and text forwarding. None of these are available on the iPhone.

With an iPhone, you look like somebody who falls for any marketing spiel they hear. For me, a person with an iPhone simply looks like they are trying to be cool, not that they are succeeding.

The success of the iPhone is a triumph of marketing over functionality.

My Nokia N95 has free turn-by-turn sat nav, cut and paste, Google Latitude and text forwarding, to name just afew things the iPhone does not have

That was actually a joke, but the idea that the iPhone is a triumph of marketing over functionality is also a joke.

Does your Nokia have a library of over 25,000 applications? Does it have a beautiful and easy to use interface? Could your grandmother work it without reading the manual? Does it have the best mobile browser in the world bar none? Is your Nokia the best iPod ever made? Is your Nokia a more capable games platform than the Nintendo DS?

The answer to all the above is "no".

Now, I don't think the iPhone is perfect, but I do think that it's a wonderful piece of kit. To pretend otherwise is pretty ludicrous. Just because you like your N95, it doesn't mean you have to dislike the iPhone. I think there's room in the world for more than one mobile phone.
  • Don't be fool of Apple clever marketing strategy The iPhone is nothing more than an iPod touch with a pretty high monthly subscription to be able to use the extra phone app that only run on the iPhone.

I think you'll find the iPod Touch is actually an iPhone without a phone, GPS, or mobile internet.

The idea that mobile phones cost more to use than iPods is hardly a revelation.

The suggestion that I dislike the iPhone just because I like my Nokia does not appear to be supported by any evidence you have offered. In additon, your statement that 'The answer to all the above is no"' is incorrect, as I demonstrate below

The Nokia N95 appears to have thousands of applications, but I am not sufficiently enamoured of my phone to have looked up the statistics. However, the 25,000 applications you mention do not appear to include the very basic functionalities that I mentioned.

The iPhone is not all that intuitive to use, although I am open to evidence to the contrary.

The interface is nothing special and the keyboard continually obscures half the screen. The N95's is better.

What is so good about the browser? You offer no evidence to support your claim that it is the best in the world.

How much music do you need to carry around with you? There is plenty of room on the N95.

I concede your point about the games; this had not occurred to me because I am over 15 years old.

...<snipped>...So for those who want the internet in their pocket and the experience of the iPhone but are on a budget my advice is to go for the iPod touch who run the exact same OS as the iPhone, and wont cost you a penny after the initial purchase of the devise. Like iphone user you can upgrade to 3.0 firmware when it will be release in June 2009 for under £10.00......<snipped>......

Absolutely agree, I have an iPod Touch as a bedside companion for things like a peek at the email or BBC iPlayer and Internet Radio. This way I've learned all about the locked-in environment that an iPhone would live in, while enjoying some interesting features. No way would I fork out the tens of hundreds of pounds that is the real cost of using an iPhone over some years. My Nokia is plenty real-world useful enough and costs beans to run on Virgin PAYG. Watching this space though, as my wife would love an iPhone (the form factor suits a handbag better than a belt clip...) and the new one coming soon could be a discretionary luxury if we are in the mood.

You are Wrong when you say that, as the iPod touch has GPS with google map and other app such as "around me", "flixter","urbanspoon" , "Google earth" as well as Mobile Internet while connected to a WiFi Network which can be done for free all over the world.

I'm sorry, your post didn't indicate that you had experience using the iPhone for any length of time.
The Nokia N95 appears to have thousands of applications, but I am not sufficiently enamoured of my phone to have looked up the statistics. However, the 25,000 applications you mention do not appear to include the very basic functionalities that I mentioned.

Symbian has just under 10,000 applications I think. I don't know how many work on an N95.
The iPhone is not all that intuitive to use, although I am open to evidence to the contrary.

I struggle to understand how pointing at something you want could be "not all that intuitive". The kids I see in the sweets aisle in Tescos seem to have it down pretty good.

My 84 year old grandmother has no problems using my iPod Touch. I frequently put photos and movies on it for her to look at when I'm visiting.
The interface is nothing special and the keyboard continually obscures half the screen. The N95's is better.

Well, I beg to differ. It comes down to personal choice really.

And the keyboard does not "continually obscure half the screen". It's only on the screen when you're typing something.
What is so good about the browser? You offer no evidence to support your claim that it is the best in the world.

Ah, so I have to offer evidence to support my opinions, whereas you present yours as facts.

Well, seeing as you ask, what makes Safari so special is its multi-touch gestures. Browsing the internet on mobile phones is generally a soul destroying fiddly affair.
How much music do you need to carry around with you? There is plenty of room on the N95.

i know there is. But how do you access it? Do you get to use Apple's beautiful iPod interface?
I concede your point about the games; this had not occurred to me because I am over 15 years old.

I'm sorry, I didn't get the memo from Saga Holidays about how one has to stop having fun once over the age of 15.

But just because you don't have a use for it doesn't mean someone else does.

I am not wrong. The iPod Touch does not have GPS. Nor does it have mobile internet. You need to be in range of a wifi network to use the internet. Mobile internet is provided over a mobile phone network.
