I opened up a golden isa account with them last week. Was promised detailed information in the post but received nothing. Phoned to query and was told nothing was sceduled to be sent to me. Annoying. Having read this , I am going to cancel the account and move on somewhere else half reliable ... and who will allow me to transfer the isa elsewhere once the year is over !!

You should file a complaint with Barclays as it costs you nothing. Though that is not strictly true when I got the letter it asked me to ring a 0845 number to deal with my complaint any further. That coming from a bank that has a freephone number but asked me to ring the ISA line on a 0845 number. The same line that would not allow me to talk to a member of staff unless I was an existing customer.

They must think we are stupid.

ahai1: why don't you just stop complaining about Barclays and go to one of the many government-owned banks instead???

I know you don't mean to suggest that the government owned banks are better run so it begs the question - What would he want to do that for?

So he/she can find something else to moan about.

That could possibly be inferred in this case.

I have been to 2 NatWest branches and the personal bankers had no idea what they were talking about but then I did get to see them and no dumb telephone system like Barclays.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may go to the Lloyds which is not very good.
