No calls are "FREE", they are INCLUSIVE!
Free means zero cost, to get the calls included you need to pay a fee to the company,(line rental), and the companies that offer them inclusive have already increased the line rental to take care of the increase in costs to the company!Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Dear friends,
I have been told that there is a "fair usage policy for making 0870 and 0845 calls – max. 1,000 mins or 150 calls a month. If either of these limits on free calls is exceeded, BT will charge for these calls until further notice".
I wanted to know exactly what it means by saying "max. 1,000 mins or 150 calls a month".
What is that 'a month' period they are considering.
* Is it the month from my Billing date or
* is it 1st of every month or
* is it last 30 days usage.
Can you please let me know how they are calculating
If we take it as an example like my bill has been produced on 6th July for the period of 6th July - 5th August. Can I use this 1000 minutes or 150 calls of 0870 or 0845 calls between 6th July - 5th August anytime or do I need to consider any other dates.
For example-
My billing date - 6th July
Billing period - 6th July - 5th August
1. If I use 200 minutes between 6th of July to 15th July, how many minutes will be remaining at the end of 15th July? I expect that as 800 minutes left till 5th August.
2. In the same month suppose if I have used 200 on 4th July (which is outside my current billing period 6th July - 5th Aug) and used 200 minutes between 6th of July to 15th July, how many minutes will be remaining at the end of 15th July?
does this comes under this 1000 minutes or 150 calls limit?
Anybody have an idea about this kind of situation....All I am interested is is it a rolling 30 day period or is it month from ur bill date...
Please let me know guys...hope you guys understand what I am asking for.
Thank you0 -
Good question kck9 and I don't really know the answer. If you switch to Talk Talk you don't have to worry about such things! There fair usage policy on 0870/0845 calls is the same on calls to UK landlines - maximum of sixty minutes per call!
So, with Talk Talk, you have unlimited calls each month and unlimited time each month.
PreCaller will not breach the 60 mins/call limit - at least it has not happened to me and I have built up over 20,000 units of credit! That is enough for 48 hours of calls to UK mobiles!
Of course, PreCaller will not have an 0870 access number to build credit on from 1st August but I feel pretty sure it will switch to an 0845 number on that date.0 -
Hi kck9,
The fair usage for 0845/0870 numbers is worked out from the the first of every month to the end of the month. Calls to those numbers made outside of your calling plan (that are therefore chargeable) do no go against the fair usage counter.
Hope this helps.

Thank you to both the TT and BT rep's for those replies!
PS, Derrick, calm down! Free just sounds better to both companies! We all know that we have to pay for them.:D0 -
Thanks for the info, BT Rep. Is there any way of finding out, in a given month, whether we are approaching either of the limits? Or does BT just send a text after the event saying 'You have used more than 150 calls/1000 minutes this month, so you'll be charged from now on' ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hi YoungNick
I can confirm that should a customer exceed the free 0845/0870 usage for the month they will receive an sms to advise them. The only method of monitoring I could offer is our online billing service by viewing your recent usage fully itemised you could keep an eye on call durations and the number of calls made to the 0845/0870 ranges.
Hope this helps
Stuart
