Am going to keep using cautiously for a while. If BT where to end up charging, presumably they'd only charge 1.5p/min at the weekend as this was their rate to 0870 before this change. Anybody know? Cheers.

BT do not have a weekend rate any more, just daytime and evening 7 days a week.

All calls are free at weekends to 01/02/03/0845/0870, (midnight Friday to midnight Sunday), for all calling plans, don't forget the 1 hour duration limit, their Mon-Fri evening calls to 0870 are 4ppm, and if you go over the 1 hour limit at weekend, (or they do charge you), you will be charged 6ppm, (same as daytime calls to 0870).

PreCaller have introduced the ability to build credit on one number (eg landline) and use that credit from another number (eg mobile phone). You just need to log into you PreCaller account and add the second phone number. This may be very useful when ROAMING with your mobile phone if it has cheap calls back to the UK as it means you can still make cheap international calls when overseas!

I'm a bit confused: I have 4 credits available on my number, and 12 credits on a number I have linked. My understanding was that I'd have 16 credits to use on either number? But instead, they are segregrated by telephone number. Is that correct?

That is not correct. I think you will find it is just a display problem. But to refresh the display in your account you need to log in again (refreshing the screen does not work)

It could be, of course, that you have inadvertantly created a second account, in which case the numbers will not be linked!

I have noted a serious problem with PRECALLER. When it asks you to enter a time (1-59 minutes) and you enter a two digit number it overruns the time you entered! I entered 10 minutes and it was still connected 25 minutes later! If you enter 9 minutes or less you seem to be ok.

I have been using PreCaller on a Talk Talk landline and O2 mobile phone for a while now. The call quality is very impressive - much better than the Betamax VOIP services.

For those who want to use PreCaller from outside the UK, that is possible too. Just sign up for one of the Betamax services listed here: http://backsla.sh/betamax. Just make sure you choose one of the services that has free calls to the UK.

You will still need to build credit for PreCaller in the UK but you can use that credit when outside UK. You also need to register a UK number on whatever Betamax service you use and also register the same number with PreCaller; that number can be UK landline, UK mobile or both.

When outside UK you can make calls via the UK PreCaller number from the Betamax client software on a PC or your UK mobile. YOU CANNOT USE A LANDLINE OUTSIDE THE UK THOUGH AS IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO REGISTER NON-UK NUMBERS ON PRECALLER.

If you are in Europe, remember that Vodafone and O2 currently have special deals when calling back to UK - and that includes PreCaller's UK access number!

Remember building credit on an 0870 access number ceases at the end of this month, so build credit now and you can still use it later. I am told that come 1st August you will have to dial an 0845 number to build credit but it will take longer to build credit as revenue share is less on 0845 numbers. Luckily, revenue share on 0845 numbers will continue after 1st August!

So, it is now possible to call from any country in the world to any other country for free, provided you can build credit for free from your BT or TALK TALK landline in the UK. If you are contemplating a switch to TALK TALK then do it NOW as the fair use policy on free calls to 0870/0845 is much less restrictive than BT's

I have talktalk and i wasn't aware you get to call 0845/0870 numbers. How do you do this, do you have to pay an extra fee every month?

Talk Talk recently re-vamped their packages. I had to take up the offer of their new call package to get free 0845/0870 calls. My calling plan includes free calls 24/7 so I also get free 0845/0870 calls 24/7.

In some instances, it is also possible to opt-in to free 0845/0870 calls with older calling plans.

I suggest you contact Talk Talk for verification with your current package. It is also possible to sign up for free 0845/0870 calls online - just log into your account and find the appropraite option. You will get an automated e-mail saying you have successfully applied but that does not mean your they will approve your application!

Remember, you will only get free 0845/0870 calls within your existing free calls plan.

I have sent an e-mail to the operator of PreCaller and I hope he may reply to queries on this thread. I would like to find out if there will definitely be a PreCaller service via 0845 on 1st August and, if so, how many units will be credited per minute?

    From The Talk Talk Site.

"Free Calls to 0845 and 0870 Numbers:
Applies to calls made in the evenings and at weekends or anytime depending on your call plan while you remain a TalkTalk customer with line rental. Max call time 60 minutes after which standard rate rates apply. This feature is available to new phone and broadband (Essentials package) customers. Existing customers on all other TalkTalk tariffs (excluding the Essentials package) must opt in to benefit."

So Talk Talk CPS only customers only want benefit.
