Hi all

I desperately need some help, my youngest's Dad sent him his old Motorola V551 from USA (exactly like this one) as part of a birthday pressie . There wasn't any instructions and he wasn't sure if it would work with an O2 sim. My son put his sim in and it asked for a "subsidy password" so he tried putting a couple of numbers, but now it's locked and says contact provider.

Does anyone know if we are going to be able to get it unlocked and how we go about that? icon11.gif Already searched this board for unock codes etc and can't find anything on a V551.

Thanks for any help
In desperation

the link it incorrect. back to subject, if you leave the phone switched on it will go back to enter subsidy code after a hour or two, then you need to get it unlocked. there are no free codes for that phone.

The manual for that phone is HERE

Theres a section about codes under "Learning to Use Your Phone", it probably needs unlocking though, and upto now I can't find any free links for that icon9.gif

when you put a wrong code in the time increases, it may take a day but it should go back to enter subsidy code in the end. it can be unlocked with smart clip etc the same way even with contact service showing. don't let them charge you more, its the same job.

The other thing is that the USA uses different frequency bands to here, 850 and 1900 vs our 900 and 1800

On a brief scan of the manual, I didn't see anything about this but I'll take another look. Many phones now are triband, and some quad - just need to find out ...... if triband it will have 1800 for here, and you can use it on Orange or T-mobile or Virgin.

edit - I'm told that it's quadband, but Motorola won't have subsidy codes - either contact the original network or dealers here ...
