Brilliant, just the answers I was hoping for!
I cant wait now to get on milling my own flour. It seems to be a dying hobby in the UK, or at least no one writes about it much on the net. In America, the grain mills seem to be as popular as processors.
I really wanted a Nutrimill one as they seem really good, but dont seem to be available in the UK. Im going for an attachment for my kenwood.
I love cheese sauces and yorks puds, so its great news I can make them with wholemeal, hurry up mothers day! :j0 -
I make tortillas with wholemeal and they are great. I do use a bit of wholemeal and white for pastry though. Will try all wholemeal this week. Pie on wednesday.MFW 1/5/08 £45,789 Cleared mortgage 1/02/13

It may be a little heavy for yorkshires, they may not rise as much, but give it a go, you could allways use half and half and a little extra baking powder?
Own flour that is getting posh.Pawpurrs x0 -
I use 2 eggs to 4 oz of plain flour in my Yorkshire batter - added eggs seem to be the thing that makes them light.........0

Well I have to say that being a yorkshire lass im pretty good at yorks puds but its going to be a real challenge using freshly milled flour!
My different wheats have arrived so I cant wait to get going on the flour making front. Trouble is, now I want a flaker to make my own porrige oats..... money saving...... I spend a fortune going back to basics lol :rotfl:0 -
I've used wholemeal flour to make sauces etc, sieved it first but it doesn't really matter though.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

Although I cant have my grain mill until Mothers day, I decided I couldnt wait so I ground up some wheat in my coffee grinder and made a cheese sauce.
First thought was I wish I had sieved it because the coffee grinder couldnt do really small particles so the bran made a very speckly sauce. Hopefully this will be better with my mill.
Apart from that though it made a nice sauce, not one for delicate food as it was very 'hearty' I am pleased with the results and happy that I will be able to use the wholegrain flour and its another area that I can cut out white flour.
Thanks for the replies guys :-)0 -
