  • Make sure you claim what your entitled too! Speak to your local Welfare Rights for advice (check out your local councils website, normally https://www.yourcouncilsname.gov.uk and look in the A-Z).

Sponging is only when you are commiting fraud, or being a lazy idiot who never intends working! Claiming when in genuine need is what its really all about so do it.

The only home working things I can think of aren't appropriate when you've got kids ;-)

  • i searched wholesalers and the searched e-bay..found a product that seemed to sell and took a risk.. it paid off..i made enugh money to pay for my kids new beds. the difference is that i found something easy to post-just took a chance and put it in the post box .. out of approx 150 people only 1 claimed to have not recieved the item. As the item was very cheap anyway i didnt mind taking a small risk on this happening as it saved endless trips to the post office! Obviously if i started to back-fire i would have chosen the recommended post office route after all.

Why feel guilty about claiming, i am sure your o/h is working?, even if he's not, its not forever, only till you sort yourselves out. At the end of the day, you have kids involved & i am sure you are doing the best you can, but sometimes we all need help :), goodluck :)

Ebay is an ideal cash source, but you have to find something that's reasonably cheap, sells quite well, is light for cheapish postage etc. It's a perpetual question that everyone's been asking for years before Ebay began.

Don't do all this "get what your entitlted to" rubbish.
You chose to have kids and you chose to look after them.
Get your other half to mind them when he gets home and go do some graft, it's good for the soul.
Don't lower yourself to be kept by the hard workers of the country go and earn a crust yourself and contribute to the economy instead of being a drain on resources like a lot of the lazy layabouts we have in society today.
Supermarket work sounds ideal as you would get discounts on purchases.

If you go to the jobcenter and ask to speak to the person that deals with employment of people with disabilities. You ARE allowed to work on Incapacity Benefit - it is something like 16 hours a week max and earn about £80 a week (but don't quote me on that). You need to ask about the permitted work scheme. It is designed to help those who are sick to get back into the workplace and the job center will do all they can to make that happen. This could be as simple as providing you with suitable work clothing, to assessing your work environment and providing specialist equipment such as chairs, desks etc. I think your employer also gets a small subsidy too. You can also get assistance with essential equipment if you would be able to start your own business to get you back to work. I am sure they can give you more details but you can continue to claim benefits for about a year or so, and if things don't work out in the following year there is a fast-track proceedure to get you back on the benefit. Obviously there is also help with working tax credits if you have littlies too.
I really hope this helps as I know from personal experience what a frustrating and soul-destroying situation you are in. If you want to PM me please feel welcome.
A quick idea for a job that may bring in a £ or two (but not much!) and maybe a few freebies is Mystery shopping. Do a quick internet search and you should find out plenty, but if you are stuck, drop me an email
Lots and lots of luck and keep positive and cheerful

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

That may have been put in the most polite way but i thought when i first read it that it was slightly harsh. If she is entitled to something then she may as well claim it, where do you think her partners tax and NI goes to? I'm sure that when her kids are up and off to school she won't hesitate in getting a job but she wants to take care of them. She is asking for work from home ideas. I worked in a shop at night after having my son. I hated it, my man works shifts so sometimes my mum had him til 10pm, he had no real routine and didnt have a bed time either. This may be the same for her, and also if she was to work in the evening her and her partner would not have time to themselves or as a family at night.
