Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 16th March. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Hello everyone
I have to admit, I'm cheating cos I haven't been to bed yet:o Unfortunately I haven't been out on the tiles or painting the town red. My little weekend visitor, Izzy, went home at 1.00am - her humans came for her directly from the airport. Once they left I got comfy and started watching a film - it was awful actually, an adaptation of a trashy detective novel, but I couldn't turn the box off!
My old style today - ah now, I've not got the excuse of looking for a job to avoid doing some spring cleaning. Maybe I'll get the heaps of rubbish under the stairs sorted out. I need to get some bookcases for under there too, that would help the general storage in the whole house. So perhaps a trip to Ikea is on the cards this week. I've got a £10 voucher for there, and a free brekkie voucher as well, so it'd be rude not to! If anybody wants to volunteer to come and assemble whatever I buy please form an orderly queue.
The dishwasher is doing it's thing right now, so I'll get that unloaded when I arise from my boudoir. Depending on the weather I think I'll sort out some hanging baskets and maybe get some sweet pea seeds started too.
Ahhh I love not having to go to wo*k! However I am grateful that I have been offered a good job, and am very thankful for all your words of congratulations - thank you everyone!! It'll be good to get settled in - the thought of going to yet another new job is probably worse than the reality of it, and it'll be wonderful to have some money coming in again.
Have a happy Monday everyone.
Snowy

Good morning, Snowy, and good luck with the job hunt! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Well, I've been MIA from this thread for a while. We're in the last few days of packing for the move, and it's all manic and panic here (although that's only me, DH is completely unstressed by it all!) We've really decluttered here and have lots of things for the local charity shop, and a couple of bags put by for the Heart Foundation, who left one of their collecting bags here the other day. DS2 and DIL are having a little wardrobe and a couple of other pieces of furniture which will be ideal for the baby's room, so DH will be taking them over later. DIL is definitely looking pregnant now! She's into the 19th week and looking really well, although her legs ache. She's a teacher and has to keep reminding herself to sit down in class, rather than stand, but, apart from that, she is looking and feeling great. She can't seem to shake of a feeling of anxiety, but I think we're all like that, aren't we? She has her second scan on 30th, so I'm hoping that will put her mind at rest.
SIL came down yesterday, bringing some more very welcome baby things - she will have saved DS2 and DIL a lot of outlay, and everything she has given them is in excellent condition. She also brought the most delicious chocolate fudge cake, which we had after lunch.
My OS has almost disappeared! I did say I would stop making bread this week so that we could pack the BM away for the move, but I bought some Hovis Wholemeal on Saturday (first loaf of bread I've bought since I got the BM two years ago)and, apart from being floored by the cost £1.60 for a large loaf, from my local Somerfield Express (yes, I know they're dear!), we didn't like it at all, so I'm making some 'real' bread today. I'll make enough for the rest of the week, I think.
Anyway, I've mioliered here for long enough. I've missed all the news on here and, sadly, won't be able to keep up with you all until I've settled in across the Channel, but I shall pop back in as often as I can.
I hope everyone is well and I'm sending lots of (((hugs))) for those in need.

Hi Snowy Owl, Mioliere and all who follow.
Snowy - congrats on the job offer :T
Mioliere - I can't get over the cost of bread either. HM all the way now, although strangely hubbie views the chewy white pappy stuff as a 'treat'. i'd rather have chocolate than that for a treat
Well..it's start of a new week...quick, dive back under the covers and ignore it.
Had a relatively poor night's sleep, a lot of tossing and turning, so I'm going to get some chores out of the way early today and then have a nap when I feel myself getting tired.
I've got a couple of hours writing to do and then I'm determined to work over the potato bed and get that ready for planting. Then i have more seeds to sow.
Dinner tonight (in the slow cooker as ever) will be a chilli.
How's everyone else's day panning out?"carpe that diem"0 -
Not sure how many chores I'm going to get done now - just found a great blog called Down to Earth and it's about simple living, homemaking etc etc. very old style and moneysaving:
"I wrote yesterday that your priorities are to keep your home, feed your family and keep paying off your debts......If you can do those three things and come out of this at the other end, it doesn't matter if you didn't have cable TV for a year or those shoes you like went in and out of fashion without you buying them. When it comes down to it, the frills don't matter and you might discover that living on less is really a great way to live."
:T :T :T
Already there lady!"carpe that diem"0 -
Hi Steel - that's a great philosophy! Thanks for posting it. I agree with you about the choccie - now that's what I call a treat!

Good morning everyone
Haven't been on here for a while, as life and school got on top of me, and we still haven't got word when OFSTED are coming. Grrr.
On the plus side, It looks like I'm going to be an aunty again (November we, think), my BP is back down to absolutely normal (much to the amazement of the practice nurse, who seems to think that big people are automatically unhealthy, and 26 out of 29 of my Y11 Class got a C grade or above in their Lit exam results.I had to sit on the news for a whole day, and it was SO hard!
On the down side, DH 'cooked' some chicken kievs (whoopsied at Mr A ) yesterday ,and when we started eating,. it was still raw. I can still feel the texture of it in my mouth. The oven chips were fine - must have been faulty packaging. It's enough to turn you veggie. I haven't been sick yet, but I keep feeling really vile - so I sent in my coverwork and am retreating to bed just as soon as I get an acknowledgement email form school)
Big hugs to everyone- hope all goes well for you today, especially those who are going through the mill:ASurviving the ups and downs of life with DH

Morning all,
Looks like a nice day here again today, yesterday was unbeliveable we were walking in t shirts. We took little dog for an hours walk, then walked around the car boot sale, then I did an hour on the Wii, and then dd and I went up to the beach for a walk, needless to say I slept very well.
I nipped into Mr T yesterday just before closing, and the hot x buns were reduced to 21p per packet, so i got 2 and they still went throught the till as bogoff so 12 of them for 21p. I also got a white organic cut loaf for 20p and 4 olive and tomato rolls for 20p :T so OH is sorted for lunches for this week, I have lots of hm, cake in the freezer, so no baking for me today, although I have an urge to do a lemon drizzle cake, we will see.
Going to clear the washing basket today, as its going to be nice again, turning a bit yucky tomorrow, I have just turned my heating off  its going to be cold again by the weekend, so it might have another quick spell on.
Kathy you do sound busy, hope the move goes well for you xx
Oooo the exciting news, well for us anyway, is that OH and I have bought a kayak :T we have been after one for ages, and found one yesterday at too good an offer, so we ordered it online, its a three seater, so we can all go, and there is room for little dog, so watch out for tales of the river bank, we have lots of lovely rivers near here, cant wait to get started.
Well I have mioliered on for too long this morning
Have good days all xx
Edited to say, kedgeree for tea tonight, first time I have made it, fingers crossed.0 -
Morning All
Been missing from here over much of the weekend and am struggling to catch up - life keeps getting in the way.
(((hugs))) to anyone who needs one.
Good news Dreamyd
Redruby - that sounds great, enjoy the kayak.
Mioliere - you do seem super organised.
Well Saturday i was treated to a lovely lunch out, a massage & then in the evening a surprise party! It was quite overwhelming but I did enjoy myself. My OH has worked for weeks on this and though at times I did suspect he managed to make me think we were doing something completely different.
Was so tired (hungover) yesterday that no OS was done at all - that means no os all weekend! However I will be making up for it this week, tesco delivery coming this morning and will stick to the menu plan this week.
Today will mainly be paperwork day, will try and get out at lunchtime with the dogs though as the weather is meant to be fantastic - 15 today. Will also get loads of washing done as it will definately dry on the line today.
Best be off now - have a great day all.x0 -
Morning peeps
looks like another nice day here again so i shall make the most of it and spend another day in te garden.
Yesterday we got quite a lot done and Mr Sunny started painting the fence.
I need to pop out for some more woodstain type thingy but thats all.
Mioliere - Good luck with the rest of the packing, it`s something that i hate doing anyway so i can`t imagine how it must be to pack for such a long trip.
Steel - Hope that you get the potato bed sorted, not long now before we`ll be putting them in.
Redruby - OO a kayak how lovely, you will all have some fantastic times.
I`m off to turn down the chick peas which are boiling away in the kitchen and then i shall get started outside.
Have a great day peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning all...................(((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))) if you need one.
Its bright and sunny agaib this monring....had a job getting off to sleep last night OH was fidgiting...........and my sensitive tooth was being sensitive after drinking some hot chocolate....blooming thing. Its fine this morning and I have just had ice cold milk on my cereal. I woke just after 7am and decided to get up.
Clean up morning,..... not that I am bothering all that much right now, the place will be trashed when we leave....the decorators will be in and they just splash the whole place, we had a real job when we came in to get paint off everything, they emulsion the walls, but do not do the gloss....daft in'it?????
Nothing else planned for today except a walk with OH which will doubtless take us past the house. The agent told us Saturday that the workmen are going in to do the bathroom ceiling this week.........just 15 days to go......
I have to finish the bolero's this afternoon, I need to start packing up my sewing stuff to move. I also need to go and see the chap at the pine shop about moving the two wardrobes. I can eaily empty them and put the stuff in the wardrobes in the house. Most of my sewing stuff can also be moved, I have the table to put the machine on, it will be deciding which is the best place to put it.
Checked my bank account yesterday OH's pension has gone in but not mine, do not know what they are playing at, its not in the new account either....so a couple of phone calls this morning no doubt to try and sort it out. I have to cancel the DD for the rent here, its been paid today, that covers us until we officially leave on 8th April.
Ni idea whats for supper tonight....possible cold meat and salad........Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Morning all,
ESSEXHEBRIDEAN, REDRUBY, BARGAINBIRD,Thanks for asking after DB's and DD2. DB1 who has prostate cancer has had his blood count results last Thursday, the count is slightly up but not enough for them to start any treatment as the side effects are so awfull they are reluctant to do anything.
DB2, who has Melanoma, has to await results to see how far the root of one of the growths has spread, he has nearly 4 dozen on his torso, An opp is the last resort because there is a great risk of the cancer getting into the bloodstream. I pray for them everyday.
DD2, SiL2b and baby enjoyed coming here on Saturday so much to see my DM & OH, DD1 and DGD1, we had a wonderfull day. DD2 has started to express so I was able to feed the baby, oh the joyDD2 & SiL2b were able to sit at the table together and enjoy a cooked b/fast in peace. They were talking about the film Marley and Me so I suggested they go and see it as now DD could leave bottles for me to feed the baby. Their faces lit up.
They have called her Charlotte, DD won.
They came here again y/day, I told them to bring all washing/ironing so that's what I'll be doing today. I made them a full roast dinner which they took home.
My DMum was a bit poorly due to being diagnosed with Polymyalitisrhumatica.
She was in a lot of pain but insisted on coming here for the w/end to see the baby.
DD1 ran the Bath marathon y/day and came 56th. So proud of her. :j
So here we are today, I've stripped 3 beds and have the first load in wm. BM is on and the vacume lurking, loads of ironing to do later. Plan to make a chicken and leek pie, dauphinouse (sp) pots and veg, enough for our dinner and will take some for DD, save her cooking.
I need to get some more cot blankets, not sure where from, any ideas?
Right then, off to tackle my list.
Hope it's a good day for all. (((((hugs))))) where needed.0
