Sorry to jump in, but our Matalan is normally a good shout for nice dresses, also its sometimes worth having a look in tesco/asda as well as something thats really on trend will filter through, if you can sew on a sash or something then you can make any dress completely original

Or what about something with a shorter skirt that you could add a coloured netting petticoat too?

TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....
  • Just a thought, have you considered registering on 'freecycle', think you need to advertise something that you want to get rid of before you can ask for something (but may be wrong!). I am not a member of freecycle but my friend is, having dropped 3 dress sizes she has given away some fantastic stuff which is now too big and recieved some great new clothes, cost= NOTHING. Other than that T K Maxx or charity shops. I'm sure she will have a great evening and a very MSE one if you can plan ahead now, everything goes crazy near 'prom time'.
  • I got both of mine from TK Maxx for £30 and £35, they were gorgeous!

However you can also try charity shops (I found a black one in a local shop, tags still on for £2.50... £30 on ebay! Still waiting for a chance to wear it :D)

Or a Monsoon outlet, our nearest is Ellesmere Port Cheshire Oaks - you can find dresses at like 75% off, I know a few people who found lovely dresses there.

Don't want to hijack the thread but thought this may be relevant to the OP, Has anyone bought a dress from the chinese companies that advertise on ebay, they seem to be very very cheap and you send them all your measurements. They look stunning in the picture, but too cheap and as I'm always thinking if it looks to good to be true........... So anyone bought one?

I bought my wedding dress from them. The same design was 980 in a shop. It cost me 90 including shipping. And it was gorgeous and perfectly fitted (it came a bit long, but they did that on purpose because they knew I was pregnant and wanted to leave some room for manoeuvre) and such a miracle of engineering that you couldn't see my four-month belly underneath it.

My mum bought a ball-gown from a Chinese company on ebay, It was fine when it arrived but the sizing was a little off on the bust. However it didn't cost much to get it altered and overall it was still cheap. The quality and workmanship were fine and she'd definitely buy another. It's worth doing a bit of research and looking at feedback as there are some not-so-great sellers, but you can get a bargain if you're careful.

Yes - I got my daughter's prom dress (last year) from a Chinese company - it was absolutely fine. In all honesty it wasn't top notch fabric but then again it was only about £30 with postage, the sizing was pretty accurate though. I wasn't going to spend loads because she's strictly a jeans and T-shirts type, so I knew it was only going to be worn once or twice. The major plus point was that we could be sure that nobody else would be wearing the same dress - and yes - she looked stunning!

What height is your daughter? I have a Morgan & Co prom dress which is black and red. It's a size 10/12 and is floor length. I've only ever worn it once so it's as good as new. When I wore it everyone commented on how lovely it looked. Hopefully the links below will work. Send me a private message if you are interested at all.

    Thanks! :)

Wish I had another occasion I could wear it at but I would be happy if I could assist someone else out and give someone else the pleasure of wearing it!
  • Is it possible if anyone could recommend which chinese company they used please. It is also my daughters prom in July this year.
