Doing my bit to spend Britain out of recession

Just thought I should shame you lot in to doing something for your country. In a selfless and humble act, I today went out and purchased a Playstation 3, three games to play on it and a brand new HD 32" LCD TV. Mrs Cleaver did her bit for the economy by treating her self to three (yes, you read correct, three) pairs of shoes.

We got up this morning and after many years of being sensible, practical and careful with money we went mental and made some stupid purchases. I haven't had a games console since I was about 14 and our TV was my parents old one, was about 9" acorss and weighed the same as Jeff Capes after a big meal.

It's now as if our lounge has been converted in to some futuristic, virtual reality world. I bought a football game with the PS3 and I have no idea, and I mean no clue at all, how the commentators seem to know how much is going on. I'm half expecting them to start talking to me. I've connected it to my wireless "no idea how the f*ck this works" box and have been racing cars with my mate who lives miles away. Fan-bloody-tastic. I was playing one very realisic game earlier and, like some old fashioned luddite, Mrs Cleaver was convinced I was controlling the people on the TV.

But back to the main point, which is that I'm doing something for my country. I'm spending us out of trouble. If everybody just did what we did today the economy would be back up and running pretty sharpish. Selfish b*stards, the lot of you.

Your country needs you.

So why are you posting on here? If this PlayStation thing is what it's cracked up to be, surely you'd rather be on that?

Returning to topic, rather than have a thinly disguised pop at Cleaver, I was toying with the idea of having a no spend day soon.

I fail to see how buying foreign goods is supposed to help this country?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I'm allowing Mrs Cleaver some quality time with the TV.

That's a fantastically good point. Or, it would be if my main post was in any way slightly serious.

I don't doubt that you were tongue in cheek, but my comment was aimed at the government. Not that they are listening.

I had a dabble with that SOA calculator that the debt free wannabes have to use (on http://makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html ) .... and I realised that if I stay in, eat VERY frugally (dried bread/ beans), have no heating on and only wash once a month, I've actually got a disposable income of about £50/month .... so I won't be rushing out to save anybody except myself.

As for mews' no spend day, I have about 27 of those a month.

    :)

Doing my bit for the planet, no lights on!

I bought a packet of Rolos (and ate the last one myself ;)), does that count?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
