Guests expecting us to pay for their outfits

I am getting married this June and we are having a budget wedding with casual dress just trousers and shirt for men.
My boyfriends brother who has just come back from a weeks holiday abroad (we cannot afford a holiday abroad) says he cannot afford to buy any clothes for our wedding as he likes expensive branded names - so he has told my fiance that they should hire suits etc and my fiance foots the bill.
He is making it a bit of an issue in saying that he cannot afford to buy an outfit as he is skint, money is tight, not much work on and they have a 1 year old baby.
What do you advise us to do and say to him.
Thanks

Surely he must possess a pair of trousers and a shirt! They don't have to be new.0

Totally agree. The bloke must own something which is suitable for your wedding.
If not, tell him to head to Tesco/Asda where he could pick up a pair of trousers and a shirt for around £20!
I'd just tell him that you don't care what they wear as long as they are there.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
(depending on your food price per head), tell him you can't afford it with all the other costs, but if he's willing to have jam sandwiches instead of the catering you can run to primark and get a nice pair of trousers/shirt/tieYes Your Dukeiness

trouble is everything he wears has or wants has to be expensive names - he even said when his baby was born he wanted designer clothes for it nothing cheap - i doubt he has a pair of trousers (smart) or a shirt as last time his sister got married 5 years ago she paid for him to hire a morning suit. I am just annoyed as money dont grow on trees and we are having to pay for our wedding and £5000 for our ivf.2010 - Goals

Bloody cheek I think, trying it on in fact.
I bet if you said you simply could not afford it he will still be there with trousers and shirt, branded or not!0 -
You don't pay for his clothes - tough if he is skint so are a lot of other people and surely he wears clothes during the day or does he walk around naked?
No point in having new for the sake of it, if he is that skint perhaps he should be buying clothes from a charity shop as they are cheaper in there. They even have designer labels in some of them.
Say that if he doesnt have anything to wear then he will just have to brave the cold and come in his birthday suit (it will be a laugh if nothing else:rotfl: ). Maybe his wife has a few frocks that he could wear instead?

Just say no. You do not spend thta sort of money on your own clothes, why should you spend it on his.
Lend him some of your boyfriend's clothes if they are a similar size!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I'd tell him that it's up to him to organise his own clothes and that you haven't budgeted for other peoples outfits as them being there is more important to you than what label clothes they're wearing. He has 2 choices - he either wears something he has/buys something that isn't designer or he doesn't go. You'll soon know where his priorities are. I think he's being quite brass necked!

Pffft -tell him where to get off!!
Tell him you will be happy to buy him a shirt and trousers - but warn him they will be Primark's finest
Becase money is tight for you as well.
If he can afford designer clothes for a baby, then he must be able to buy a pair of trousers for himself.
You shouldn't have to fork out for everyone's outfits. I told the males at mine they could wear what they wanted. They have all opted to hire kilts at £60-£70 each. Even my BIL who has his own kilt has chosen to hire one so he could wear the same tartan as my side of the family.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
