SVP are doing the 111D in ALL colours for £19.99 until Sunday 11.59pm.

With Ecomony delivery that works out at £25.85.

    but....

If you choose an item from their discount delivery list you get 99p delivery.

Combine the 111D with Infinity White Top 8x DVD-R @ £7.99 (which use the excellent Mitsubishi dye) you can a top DVD writer with 50 blanks for £28.96 delivered.

For those who don't know, the 111D can be cross-flashed to the 111L which does DVD-RAM writing and Labelflash (it's the exact same hardware with different firmwares) using this firmware 111L_819.ZIP. This firmware also supports auto-bitsetting.

I've always found Pioneer drives reliable and at that price... wow! Thanks very much, I've just ordered mine :-)

First of all thanks very much for the SVP post - now a proud owner of a 111D :D.

Could you be so kind as to post (or a link) exactly how this firmware flash - or cross-flash in this instance - should be applied?

I recently flashed my standard DVD drive (& motherboard BIOS in the past) using a boot floppy, so I'm familiar with these things. I'm also aware of the risks involved!

    Many thanks, G

    Hi G,

    This is what I did.

Go to this page PIONEER DVR-111L Firmware and download the 8.19 INT and 8.26 INT firmwares.

Extract the contents of each zip file and execute the firmware upgrade for 8.19 INT(make sure there's no disk in the drive). Select your 111D from the list and then flash. This firmware patcher will do the 111D -> 111L conversion and allow you to use the 8.26 INT patcher. Now reboot and you're finished.

    * If the firmware patcher has a problem recognising the drive, start with this PIONEER DVR-111 Firmware 1.06 firmware and then proceed with 8.19 INT etc.

The 8 in the firmware revision refers to Buffalo, they take the base Pioneer firmware and add their own features like Auto Bitsetting(for DVD+r media) and Labelflash. You'll also have DVD-RAM writing capability :)

    HTH

Dave, many thanks for taking the trouble to write detailed instructions :D.

I read in another forum that cross-flashing may invalidate the drive's warranty so have decided not to do it (for the time being at least!).

However, what I have done is upgrade the firmware to the latest ver 1.23 - taken from Pioneer's sw download page.

This was my first flash in 'Windows' (as it were, without the DOS/floppy nonsense), & what a pleasant experience it was :).
Another plus was not being regretful (or worried in the future) about flashing with the incorrect firmware. Initially, I mistakenly ran the DVR-111 update with no ill-effects (this mistake is of course catastrophic with CD/DVD-rom drives) - wonder if this applies solely to DVD-writers &/or Pioneer ones? G

    Your welcome G.

Yes it will invalidate your warranty but if you need bitsetting for dvd player compatibility(dvd+r -> dvd-rom book type), it's worth the "risk" imo.

As for the pioneer firmware update, it checks the destination drive for matching hardware, this stops accidental cross flashing ;)
