There isn't really an Apple equivalent to the XPS 420.
The nearest thing price-wise Apple make to the XPS 430 (I presume the 420's successor) is I guess the Mac Mini, which starts at £100 cheaper than the XPS 430.
If you want a Mac with the same form factor as the XPS 430, you'll need to spend a grand more to get a Mac Pro.
Dell's XPS laptops are also pretty close both in spec and price to their Apple equivalents. Pretty much every computer manufacturer has a "premium" range which isn't too dissimilar to Apple's offerings.0 -
Why are people heaving praises on Apple. Its just a fashionable computer that wont let you run some useful programs. You can't keep a good man down...0

I use lots of "useful programs" that are only available for the Mac.
I'm sure you have positively oodles of experience with Macs though, so your opinion is of course completely valid.0 -
Screw dell if you want a mac mini type thing get yourself an asus nova (little cheaper, better specs too).0

asus nova? Are they updating it? I looked at that a while ago and it's not bad but it's a little long in the tooth. Half the places that stock it claim to be out of stock. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0

As said, try one. I did 8 years ago and love it. I will never have a PC again. Never had any problems, very easy to use and just sold my first one, a old powerbook for an amazing price. I have no axe to grind in the war between the two. Over the years many friends have tried mine and bought one and say the same. They do seem expensive but one mac in 8 years instead of 3 PCs? and selling at a good price is no problem.0

I spent 6 months working with a Mac Mini as a main office computer. Even doing basic stuff like office documents, web surfing and email it crashed, on average, once a day. Comparing it with an XPS 430 is verging on the laughable.0 -

Yeah I know. I once used a Dell that crashed 3 times a day, so clearly every Dell is unusable, not to mention 3 times as bad as a Mac Mini.
Of course, the Dell might have been faulty, or badly set up, or maybe I was even doing something wrong... but it's far more fun to make sweeping claims based on a personal sample of one isn't it?If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0
