The BTL explosion - was it all just about money?

Chatting to someone yesterday siad he had 9 BTLs, not just a binman you see, he's a LANDLORD

Made me think, was it all about making money or ar these BTL losers just no-ones who wanted to be someones, a bit of power for the litle people?:rolleyes:

I think there's probably an element of that for everyone who sets up a small business, or works for themselves. A bit of power, a bit of not working for the man, proving a point to everyone else etc. All can be very good qualities of course.

Why is a binman a 'no-one'? Do you define peoples worth by what they do for a living? Additionally what makes you think being a landlord elevates someone's status, it's simply a form of investment. I wouldn't think a millionaire landlord was any better off or had a higher status than a millionaire something else IMHO

I don't think it's got anything to do with what I think mate, it's about what people think of them selves :rolleyes:

Mind you, ayone who thinks being a landlord is a step up from anything is bleedin mental if you ask me:rotfl:

Personally I think it's crazy to judge a person by their job. I guess as an ex-banker I would say that!

ETA: I think the Royal Dental Hospital is now a bar / restaurant* - a sign of the times?

Personally That Question is the thing I'll miss least about living in London.

Judging someone by their job is silly. I know a security guard at a library in the City of London who has a PhD.

My old next door neighbour from when I was a kid got a double first from Cambridge and became a painter and decorator.

The head of the Far East and exotics FX trading desk at a bank I worked for left school at 16 and worked his way up from the post room.

Why should your job define you?

Well as it goes, in my time I've been a paper boy, office cleaner (I even did the loos), kitchen porter, waiter, popcorn seller, shop assistant, barman, shop manager, chef, bank clerk, banking consultant and manager of a hedge fund business.

I know a couple of people who have btl a second house as an investment which they felt would be a better bet than paying into a pension, but likewise I know a really nasty piece who has loads of bloody awful houses in terrible areas which he turned into bedsits for DHSS (or whatever it's called now) - he's totally in it for raking in the money; so I guess you get all sorts.
