I think there's probably an element of that for everyone who sets up a small business, or works for themselves. A bit of power, a bit of not working for the man, proving a point to everyone else etc. All can be very good qualities of course.0 -

Why is a binman a 'no-one'? Do you define peoples worth by what they do for a living? Additionally what makes you think being a landlord elevates someone's status, it's simply a form of investment. I wouldn't think a millionaire landlord was any better off or had a higher status than a millionaire something else IMHO0 -

I don't think it's got anything to do with what I think mate, it's about what people think of them selves
Mind you, ayone who thinks being a landlord is a step up from anything is bleedin mental if you ask me:rotfl:0 -

Well this is what Leicester Square looked like the last time the bin men got fed up in 1979 under Labour:
Personally I think it's crazy to judge a person by their job. I guess as an ex-banker I would say that!
ETA: I think the Royal Dental Hospital is now a bar / restaurant* - a sign of the times?0 -

Sorry mate but that's botox and you know it
We all do it, how soon do you work into the conversation with someone, er, what do you do mate? and then judge the poor sod acordingly?:beer:0 -
And actully, while were one the subject, your not on here saying your an ex-shelf-stacker are you mate?;)
And what about all those tits who have "I'm a financial advisor"in their signatures?:rotfl:

Personally That Question is the thing I'll miss least about living in London.
Judging someone by their job is silly. I know a security guard at a library in the City of London who has a PhD.
My old next door neighbour from when I was a kid got a double first from Cambridge and became a painter and decorator.
The head of the Far East and exotics FX trading desk at a bank I worked for left school at 16 and worked his way up from the post room.

Well as it goes, in my time I've been a paper boy, office cleaner (I even did the loos), kitchen porter, waiter, popcorn seller, shop assistant, barman, shop manager, chef, bank clerk, banking consultant and manager of a hedge fund business.0 -

You might, I certainly don't judge someone by what they do0 -

Fully agree, if I had my time over again I would probably be an RSPCA inspector (although a vet would be another alternative)0
