Thanks for pointing out this mortgage....i'm glad I held off back in January now. I wanted something below 4% and with low fees so I can't fault this one. Even if things get lower i'd be happy with this so I think it's time to jump! Thanks again!

This is a tempting offer from A & L(never thought i would say that!).We have a big decision to make.We are off the fix with A & L and are now on base rate +0.90 for term. Not sure to stick with tracker(and hope rates do not go up soon) or go onto this deal. The fixed rates have never been so low as they are now, so will have to think hard about this.....Neil

isn't the old adage for variable rates: "base-rate tracker when rates are on the way down... and SVR on the way up?"

Is anyone else having problems contacting A&L? I keep getting cut off and when I requested a ring back it didn't happen. Their online application isn't the best i've come across....it's making me wonder if they'd be able to process my change of direct debits for the new bank account? Hopefully this is just a one off glitch!!

so - A&L are insisting that my house is worth less than I bought it for, even though EVERY price checking site has me at £10-25k more than I paid in Q1 2003.

I'm apparently at 67% LTV and so have paid the £95 for a valuation. They won't even let me reserve the rate subject to valuation - I mean... do they even want my business? Perfect credit report, never missed a payment on ANYTHING, and i'm still getting the run-around.

Thanks Gordon for freeing up the mortgage market, it's been a really great way to spend £750billion.

I requested a callback on Saturday and they called at exactly the right time. I also called them yesterday to do the application over the phone. It took about 10 mins to get through but I didn't have any problems with being cut off.

Thanks to the OP for pointing out this mortgage offer, we were existing A&L mortgage holders ( base rate + 0.9% ) but have decided to take the plunge and transfer across to this new offer. The lady was very helpful on the phone and has delayed our transfer until May so we will have another month at the lower rate. I know we will be £75 a month worse off to start with but we didn't want to run the risk of rates going up again, they've esentially reached their lowest limit so I don't think ( and hoping ) that this fixed rate will be about the lowest it can get and at least we know were we stand for the next 5 yrs.
