 to your poor father's boat sinking, how awful for him
I shall think of that each time I go shopping now & try to make my trips really quick.
On a lighter note I'm glad we're all agreed that debt busting should be reduced during the hols motion carried then
I need to vacate the pc for a time now so DD1 can complete her uni application but will return later ...

Yay - I have had NSD number 2 :j
I also spent a very useful couple of hours allotmenteering this morning. I was halfway through vigorously de weeding the cold frame when I spotted what looked like spring onions  I had to hastily push them all back into the soil & give them a drink & hope that my fellow allotmenteers dont notice :shhh:
Letter from school that another trip is imminent, that'll be a £12 'voluntary' contribution then  accompanied by the 'create an entire Tudor outfit that will last a school day without leaving your child naked & humiliated' letter
Of course Mademoiselle wants to be Anne Boleyn. I said I was quite willing to perform the decapitation in the interests of authenticity ... she's now content to be servant girl
I also received another letter today, by recorded delivery, this one was from Renault HQ to inform me that my beloved is the very model that was on watchdog last year due to it having a slight defect as regards the bonnet mechanism ... it's prone to flying open unexpectedly & according to the letter " ... there is the risk of damage to the vehicle, loss of visibility which may affect the occupants safety ... & potential for serious injury ... ":eek::eek: I actually felt quite sick when remembering the journey back from Wols a few weeks ago when I most definitely was going at a speed that would have resulted in serious death had the bonnet flown up _pale_ although I'm hoping the fact that it didnt means it's ok ... cant acutally remember having opened the bonnet at all since I got the car
I have now booked the car in for its free closing mechanism check & free 25 point check & free car wash too & will be driving very slowly & cautiously for the next 2 weeks. It is actually the second letter that has been sent out regarding this car which does make me wonder why on earth the previous owner didnt get it done
DD1 came round to fill in her application form & insisted that I help so I didnt get to go for a bike ride tonight
but will make up for it tomorrow as DD has a friend coming round for tea & bringing her bike too. I'm now wishing I'd not forgotten that tomorrw will be my heavy workload day .
Best get an early bath & bed tonight then,
bye for now

Re the car - maybe the previous owner didnt watch watchdog which was why it was never done and for a while Renault did deny there was a fault and tried to blame it on the car owners themselves and their lack of maintenance and not the fact that Renault had designed a dodgy part:rolleyes:
Good luck with the onions - hope they come up since you pulled them out and replanted them:D0 -
Well, here we are again ,
yet another trip to tatco completed & I am actually quite proud of myself as I only spent £39.25 in the store & of that £1.94 was on some very sweet little lights for our bikes & another cheeky 37p on a notebook - well, you can never have too many notebooks when you're a DFW & it's all made from recycled stuff . I utterly promise that not a single candle or other scented /decorative item found it's way into my trolley:A although there was an incident at the checkout concerning a nice bottle of rioja. It was found hiding under the giant 'I need to lose more than one jeans size' box of special K & just refused to leave, what could I do
I also put £15 worth of fuel in the car which should do me until I get the bonnet checked as no way am I whizzing anywhere until that's done.
By the way Horace, you're right you know, I re read the letter & it does mention maintenance of ones bonnet mechanism
I had to sacrifice one of my £2 coins to the tooth fairy last night
& am very concerned as it appears that she will be returning again soon - just how many teeth do children lose ?
I also did a thing last night that I need to confess to :
I ordered a tudor costume from ebay at a cost of £9.99
. I had planned to make an apron, mob cap & skirt but there it was, all ready made & deliverable to the door. Nobody mention that sewing machine I bought please. I worked out that by the time I'd paid for the petrol, parking, material, lace, elastic & thread & stressed myself out over it it would be cheaper just to order one
:D
I've also just signed up to a free 14 day trial with lovefilm just to get the £17 quidco cash
& have now changed the payments so that they go inot my savings account . I've also done a survey which gave me 700 points ... I feel that a wii fit will be coming my way soon
Best get myself off to the school now so
bye for now

Lula - why did you buy the sewing machine? does it make a handy shelf

Well done on the tatco purchases, however, toothfairies only leave 5ps not £2 coins:eek: kids lose lots of teeth so you could be in for an expensive time if you have to give £2 to the toothfairy for her to put them under DD's pillow:eek:
Don't make any hobnobs for Numpty either - he doesnt deserve any for saying that you needed to do your chores:rotfl:0 -
Horace -
I bought the sewing machine because I had too much cash in my hand, because I hadnt been to pay it in to the bank
It actually does make a very good shelf for the old keyboard that I no longer use  & the large envelope of papers that sits next to the pc waiting for me to buy a shredder ... which I could have done if I hadnt bought a sewing machine
You're right about Numpty hobnobs too
I did actually buy the ingredients for those yummy looking choccie biccies today, I may have to delay the special k challenge until monday :shhh: 0 -
Lula
I was only teasing about your sewing machine.
I am really cheesed off tonight - I was supposed to be having a visit from London boyfriend tonight for the weekend only he texted me to say that he would be coming up tomorrow, so I rang him and he is at a works dinner - so does anyone want the large lasagne that I got out of the freezer earlier? I will be living on it for a week:mad:
Anyway I have just rung the nit and told him that he will get an email at work and a time can be arranged for him to pick up his stuff and he can do one and never darken my doorstep again - if he wants his work colleagues then he can have 'em:mad:
Choccie biccies needed please plus a large glass of something - got any hemlock?:rotfl:0 -
Hello & dodge the tumbleweeds
It's been a while since I logged on, I've been frantically busy doing various things; I've rediscovered my cleaning mojo & am now just waiting for the tidying, decluttering & throwing away ones to appear ...
Saturday I went to the local pub car park where the horticultural society were having a plant sale & as on eof the members is also an allotment comittee member I thought I'd better show myself. Two chive plants & 2 nice plants with pale green furry leaves & magenta flowers all for £3.50
My sunflowers on the windowsill are grwoing vigourously & the pretty orange ones whose names I cant remember are now showing themselves too :j. I'm due to go to the airplot site in the next week or so & am going to take some sunflowers over there. I dont want to preach on this thread but my opinion is that there is no need for another runway at Heathrow & the village of Sipson should not be destroyed  I'm proud to be a protester against this madness & am glad to live in country where I am free to express my opinion.
Climbs off soapbox ...
I've now managed 5 NSDs & have also done something a bit bonkers ...
I made the usual weekly payment of £60 to CC1 & noticed that the balance is now down to £3,258.55. The original plan for today was to go visiting fellow DFWers, but I was offered some extra private :shhh: work so decided to do the sensible thing . I received my tax disc reminder so took the plunge & paid £80 of my £2 coins into the bank, then remembering the balance of CC! I realised that what with private work, £2 coins & some money from the holiday/emergency/savings fund I could actually pay that extra £258.55 off CC1 ... so I did
CC1 now has a balance of £2,998.55  (total debt now £5,297.45 )
Of course the savings fund is now somewhat depleted
however, now that CC1 is under £3,000 I am going to apply for a new CC with a 0 % deal & try to balance transfer the hideous Barclaycard interest rate.
The savings account has taken a big battering recently as I've had to bail out DD1 again, poor thing has had her card cloned  & 'lost' over £600.
There is also the scary possibilty that she may have to return home for a bit  she's not getting on with the housemates & has decided to leave at the end of the month, thinking that the hospital where she works had a lodging room they were keeping just for her should she need it  Quelle surprise when it turns out they dont
. I'm already stressing about that & all the implications of a prodigal return, shift work, loss of space, bathroom facilities, quiet, peace & harmony etc etc etc to say nothing of the complications re rent, council tax & the reductions on these that make working worthwhile & affordable. Underneath all this though is concern for her health as it turns out that she needs another ecg as the previous one showed up some 'irregularities' which need further investigation. I'm trying hard not to worry so paying off debts is a good way of taking my mind off it all.
Other news is that DD got her Tudor costume at the weekend & spent most of the time wearing it & being a very good servant, she does need to work on her hanging clothes on the line skills though before anyone will pay her . We had a fire on saturday night after our 2 hour long bike ride & the next morning were a bit concerned to hear that the horses in the field had escaped at some point during the night & were discovered at a nearby pub, grazing on the hedge :rotfl:. First outdoor chore of the day is now to collect twigs & branches for the fire, it's all gone very rustic here
The recent wind has meant that by the time I've got to one end of the garden & gathered a bundle of twigs, another armfull has appeared behind me.
The robins are doing very well & now have their eyes rather than their beaks open each time we go in the shed. It takes every bit of my self control not to pick them up & cuddle them, they are just so fluffy & sweet
I need to get to bed now as the plan for tomorrow is allotment if its not raining, then DD1 is coming over to complete application form (& probably to size up the sofa or rebuild her old bed ) then I should have lots of work to do - oh joy. Yes, I know & I am grateful to have it.
bye for now

Hi Lula,
Well done on the extra payment on the credit card, that's superb.
Sorry to hear about DD1, she is really better off getting it checked out, fingers crossed that it will be nothing. Hope she also manages to get some accommodation sorted too.
Well done on the NSD's, not something that I have managed so far this month, keep going hun.
Good call with buying the Tudor costume seeing as DD likes wearing it.
Hope today isn't too stressful for you and you manage to get some time on the allotment.
Catch you later xx0 -
Hiya Lula
That's a fine piece of credit card payment.
Sorry to hear about DD1, and hope they hurry up with her tests. Back in the day when I worked for the NHS, they were always pretty prompt with staff - let's hope that holds true now. Also, the turnover on staff accommodation was always fast (I had a vast assortment of flatmates over 2 years), so fingers crossed for you both.
Glad to hear the young robins are doing well. If they are getting used to you, hopefully they will be very friendly as adults and come to visit you. I would imagine they will love your garden, and come asking for worms when you dig.
Yesterday the new young black cat from a few doors down was observing some doves from the fence. The doves flew off unconcerned, and the daft cat then got itself stuck on the top of the arbour (my former Burmese once got herself stuck up a telegraph pole - doh!), so I had to coax it down. It's a very friendly cat, although I did feel that I was fraternising with the enemy by playing with it for a while to calm it down. I only hope the resident birds will forgive me...
Take care X0
